Abstract

Systems and methods for generating and displaying groupings of content recommendations using personas are provided. The system determines content for each of the plurality of personas. The determined content for each of the plurality of personas comprises content that shares a common genre or theme for each persona. The system populates each of the plurality of personas using the determined content for each of the plurality of personas. The system then causes display of at least some of the plurality of personas on a viewing device of a user. The at least some of the plurality of personas is selected for the user based on device data corresponding to the user, whereby the device data indicates user preferences and interactions with previous content.

First claim

What is claimed is:

1. A method comprising:
receiving device data indicating interactions of a user with various content;
determining genres associated with the various content;
generating a plurality of personas, each persona of the plurality of personas representing a character having a particular interest that corresponds to a genre of the genres;
generating content recommendations corresponding to the particular interest for each persona; and
providing the plurality of personas to a device of the user, the device causing display of icons representing at least some personas from the plurality of personas, selection of an icon representing a selected persona causing a display of content recommendations generated for the selected persona.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining corresponding content for each persona, the corresponding content for each persona comprising content that shares a common theme corresponding to the particular interest of each persona of the plurality of personas, wherein the content recommendations are based on the corresponding content for each persona.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the corresponding content comprises determining most popular content for a genre corresponding to the particular persona of the plurality of personas.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the corresponding content comprises determining most highly rated content for a genre corresponding to the particular persona of the plurality of personas.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
in response to receiving a selection of the icon representing the selected persona, causing display of additional icons representing the content recommendations generated for the selected persona.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least some personas are selected for the user based on the device data corresponding to the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content recommendations comprise one or more videos.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the icons are displayed in a grid format.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the plurality of personas comprises generating personas that provide content recommendations for a general audience.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the plurality of personas comprises generating customized personas based on the device data.

11. A system comprising:
one or more hardware processors; and
a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more hardware processors, cause the one or more hardware processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving device data indicating interactions of a user with various content;
determining genres associated with the various content;
generating a plurality of personas, each persona of the plurality of personas representing a character having a particular interest that corresponds to a genre of the genres;
generating content recommendations corresponding to the particular interest for each persona; and
providing the plurality of personas to a device of the user, the device causing display of icons representing at least some personas from the plurality of personas, selection of an icon representing a selected persona causing a display of content recommendations generated for the selected persona.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
determining corresponding content for each persona, the corresponding content for each persona comprising content that shares a common theme corresponding to the particular interest of each persona of the plurality of personas, wherein the content recommendations are based on the corresponding content for each persona.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein determining the corresponding content comprises determining most popular content for a genre corresponding to the particular persona of the plurality of personas.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the determining the corresponding content comprises determining most highly rated content for a genre corresponding to the particular persona of the plurality of personas.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least some personas are selected for the user based on the device data corresponding to the user.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the content recommendations comprise one or more videos.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the icons are displayed in a grid format.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the plurality of personas comprises generating personas that provide content recommendations for a general audience.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the plurality of personas comprises generating customized personas based on the device data.

20. A non-transitory machine-storage medium having instructions that, when executed by one or more hardware processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
receiving device data indicating interactions of a user with various content;
determining genres associated with the various content;
generating a plurality of personas, each persona of the plurality of personas representing a character having a particular interest that corresponds to a genre of the genres;
generating content recommendations corresponding to the particular interest for each persona; and
providing the plurality of personas to a device of the user, the device causing display of icons representing at least some personas from the plurality of personas, selection of an icon representing a selected persona causing a display of the content recommendations generated for the selected persona.
