Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Personalized insurance systems, including vehicle-based devices and modules, insurance system servers, personal mobile devices, and other computing devices, may operate individually or in combination to determine and implement personalized vehicle insurance policies. Such policies may be driver-specific, time-specific, vehicle-specific, and/or driving-trip specific. Various driver data, vehicle data, and driving trip data may be received and analyzed in order to determine usage-based insurance parameters for vehicle driving and non-driving activities. Personalized vehicle insurance policies may be presented to and accepted by drivers, after which the drivers and one or more associated vehicles may be monitored to detect and store vehicle usage data in accordance with the personalized insurance policy.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving driver information associated with a driver of a vehicle and vehicle information associated with the vehicle, the driver information and the vehicle information determined based on data collected using one or more vehicle sensors; automatically determining driving trip information, the driving trip information including a destination; determining a first insurance cost for a driving trip based on one or more of the driver information, the vehicle information, and the driving trip information; calculating an alternate insurance cost for an alternate driving trip based on one or more of alternate driver information, alternate vehicle information, and alternate driving trip information; determining a first parking location for parking the vehicle during the driving trip; determining, based on the first insurance cost and the alternate insurance cost, an insurance cost savings corresponding to the alternate driving trip, the insurance cost savings also corresponding to parking the vehicle at the first parking location instead of an alternate parking location during the driving trip; transmitting an instruction to cause a user interface to indicate a first insurance offer comprising the alternate driving trip and the insurance cost savings; and receiving a response indicating that the first insurance offer is accepted or declined based on detecting via a one or more Global Positioning System sensors that the vehicle has parked at the first parking location. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the driver information identifies the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle information identifies the vehicle, and the driving trip information is determined based on previously-stored driving pattern data. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the destination comprises the first parking location for parking the vehicle during the driving trip, and wherein the first insurance cost includes a cost for parking the vehicle at the first parking location during the driving trip. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first insurance cost and the alternate insurance cost is one or more of a usage rate for insurance and a flat-fee insurance cost. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the alternate driving trip includes using one or more of a different route or a different vehicle. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the response is generated based on a detection via the one or more vehicle sensors that the vehicle is proceeding along the alternate driving trip. 7. A system comprising: at least one processor; and non-transient memory storing computer-readable instructions configured to cause the at least one processor to: receive driver information associated with a driver of a vehicle and vehicle information associated with the vehicle, the driver information and the vehicle information determined using data obtained using one or more vehicle sensors; automatically determine driving trip information, the driving trip information including a destination; determine a first insurance cost for a driving trip based on one or more of the driver information, the vehicle information, and the driving trip information; calculate an alternate insurance cost for an alternate driving trip based on one or more of alternate driver information, alternate vehicle information, and alternate driving trip information; determine a first parking location for parking the vehicle during the driving trip; compare the first insurance cost and the alternate insurance cost to determine an insurance cost savings corresponding to the alternate driving trip, the insurance cost savings also corresponding to parking the vehicle at the first parking location instead of an alternate parking location during the driving trip; transmit an instruction to cause a user interface to indicate a first insurance offer comprising the alternate driving trip and the insurance cost savings; and receive a response indicating that the first insurance offer is accepted or declined based on detecting via a one or more Global Positioning System sensors that the vehicle has parked at the alternate parking location. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the driver information identifies the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle information identifies the vehicle, and the driving trip information is determined based on previously-stored driving pattern data. 9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the destination comprises the first parking location for parking the vehicle during the driving trip, and wherein the first insurance cost includes a cost for parking the vehicle at the first parking location during the driving trip. 10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the first insurance cost and the alternate insurance cost is one or more of a usage rate for insurance and a flat-fee insurance cost. 11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the alternate driving trip includes using one or more of a different route or a different vehicle. 12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the response is generated based on a detection via the one or more vehicle sensors that the vehicle is proceeding along the alternate driving trip. 13. One or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed, cause a processor to: receive driver information associated with a driver and vehicle information associated with a vehicle, the driver information and the vehicle information determined using data obtained using one or more vehicle sensors; automatically determine driving trip information, the driving trip information including a destination; determine a first insurance cost for a driving trip based on one or more of the driver information, the vehicle information, and the driving trip information; calculate an alternate insurance cost for an alternate driving trip based on one or more of alternate driver information, alternate vehicle information, and alternate driving trip information; determine a first parking location for parking the vehicle during the driving trip; determine an insurance cost savings corresponding to the alternate driving trip by comparing the first insurance cost to the alternate insurance cost, the insurance cost savings also corresponding to parking the vehicle at the first parking location instead of an alternate parking location during the driving trip; transmit an instruction to cause a user interface to indicate a first insurance offer comprising the alternate driving trip and the insurance cost savings; and receive a response indicating that the first insurance offer is accepted or declined based on detecting via a one or more Global Positioning System sensors that the vehicle has parked at the alternate parking location. 14. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media of claim 13 , wherein the driver information identifies the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle information identifies the vehicle, and the driving trip information is determined based on previously-stored driving pattern data. 15. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media of claim 13 , wherein the first insurance cost and the alternate insurance cost is one or more of a usage rate for insurance and a flat-fee insurance cost. 16. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media of claim 13 , wherein the alternate driving trip includes using one or more of a different route or a different vehicle. 17. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media of claim 13 , wherein the response is generated based on a dete
