Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An insulated structure for an appliance includes a plurality of walls, a cavity defined by the plurality of walls, and an aperture defined by one of the plurality of walls. The aperture is employed in evacuating the cavity to establish a less-than-atmospheric pressure within the cavity. A base structure is coupled to an interior surface of the one of the plurality of walls that defines the aperture. The base structure is aligned with the aperture. A pressure sensor is received by the base structure. The base structure and the pressure sensor together define a pressure-sensing assembly.

What is claimed is: 1. An insulated structure comprising: a cavity defined by a plurality of walls; an aperture defined by a wall of the plurality of walls; a base structure coupled to the wall that defines the aperture, wherein the base structure is aligned with the aperture and defines at least one channel that is aligned with the aperture; and a pressure sensor received by the at least one channel of the base structure, wherein the base structure and the pressure sensor together define a pressure-sensing assembly, the pressure-sensing assembly including a first polymeric plate and a second polymeric plate attached to the first polymeric plate. 2. The insulated structure of claim 1 , further comprising: a cover that is removably coupled to the wall defining the aperture. 3. The insulated structure of claim 2 , wherein the cover is removably disposed to position the pressure-sensing assembly between the cover and the wall having the aperture. 4. The insulated structure of claim 1 , wherein the aperture is employed in evacuating the cavity to establish a less-than-atmospheric pressure within the cavity. 5. The insulated structure of claim 1 , wherein the first polymeric plate and the second polymeric plate are adhered to one another. 6. The insulated structure of claim 1 , wherein the at least one channel includes a plurality of channels, the plurality of channels comprising a plurality of respective diameters. 7. The insulated structure of claim 1 , wherein electrical leads of the pressure sensor extend through the first polymeric plate and the second polymeric plate. 8. The insulated structure of claim 1 , wherein the at least one channel comprises a first channel and a second channel, and wherein the first channel is aligned with the aperture. 9. The insulated structure of claim 8 , wherein the second channel receives the pressure sensor. 10. The insulated structure of claim 8 , wherein the first channel and the second channel are oriented perpendicular to one another. 11. The insulated structure of claim 8 , wherein the first channel and the second channel are in fluid communication with one another. 12. An insulated structure comprising: a cavity defined by a plurality of walls, one wall of the plurality of walls defining an aperture configured to provide access into the cavity; a base structure coupled to an interior surface of the one wall of the plurality of walls that defines the aperture, wherein the base structure is aligned with the aperture, wherein the base structure defines one or more channels; a pressure sensor that is received by the base structure, wherein the base structure and the pressure sensor together define a pressure-sensing assembly, and wherein the pressure sensor is a microelectromechanical system; and first and second polymeric plates that are disposed within the one or more channels, wherein electrical leads of the pressure sensor extend through the first polymeric plate and the second polymeric plate. 13. The insulated structure of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the one or more channels receives the pressure sensor, and wherein the one or more channels comprises a plurality of diameters. 14. The insulated structure of claim 12 , wherein the one or more channels comprises a first channel and a second channel, and wherein the first channel is positioned over the aperture. 15. The insulated structure of claim 14 , wherein the second channel receives the pressure sensor, and wherein the first channel and the second channel are in fluid communication with one another. 16. The insulated structure of claim 14 , wherein the first channel and the second channel are oriented perpendicular to one another. 17. The insulated structure of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the one or more channels is positioned over the aperture. 18. An insulated structure comprising: a cavity defined by a plurality of walls; an aperture defined by a wall of the plurality of walls; a base structure coupled to the wall, wherein the base structure defines at least one channel that is in communication with the aperture; and a pressure sensor received by the at least one channel of the base structure, wherein the base structure and the pressure sensor together define a pressure-sensing assembly, the pressure-sensing assembly including a first polymeric plate and a second polymeric plate attached to the first polymeric plate. 19. The insulated structure of claim 18 , wherein electrical leads of the pressure sensor extend through the first polymeric plate and the second polymeric plate. 20. The insulated structure of claim 18 , wherein the at least one channel comprises a first channel and a second channel, and wherein the first channel is positioned over the aperture.
