A dishwasher and method for operating the same utilize a diverter valve to control via rotation the flow of fluid such as wash fluid or pressurized air to a rotatable conduit supported in the rack of a dishwasher. A valve member may be disposed at a predetermined rotational position about an axis of rotation of the conduit such that a fluid inlet on a rotatable valve body may be rotated to the predetermined rotational position to restrict fluid flow to the conduit.

What is claimed is: 1. A dishwasher, comprising: a wash tub; a fluid supply configured to supply fluid to the wash tub, the fluid supply including a pump; a tubular spray element disposed in the wash tub and being rotatable about a longitudinal axis thereof, the tubular spray element including one or more apertures extending through an exterior surface thereof; a valve body coupled to the tubular spray element for rotation about the longitudinal axis with the tubular spray element, the valve body including a fluid inlet configured to receive fluid from the fluid supply; a valve member disposed at a predetermined rotational position about the longitudinal axis to restrict fluid flow through the fluid inlet to the tubular spray element when the tubular spray element and the fluid inlet are rotated to the predetermined rotational position and thereby shut off the tubular spray element; and a tubular spray element drive coupled to the tubular spray element and configured to discretely direct the tubular spray element to each of a plurality of rotational positions about the longitudinal axis thereof, the tubular spray element drive further configured to rotate the tubular spray element and the fluid inlet of the valve body to the predetermined rotational position and maintain the tubular spray element and the fluid inlet of the valve body at the predetermined rotational position by stopping the tubular spray element at the predetermined rotational position during operation of the pump to restrict fluid flow through the fluid inlet to the tubular spray element and thereby shut off the tubular spray element. 2. The dishwasher of claim 1 , wherein the tubular spray element drive is configured to maintain the fluid inlet of the valve body at the predetermined rotational position to restrict fluid flow to the tubular spray element while fluid is being supplied by the fluid supply. 3. The dishwasher of claim 1 , wherein the tubular spray element is a first tubular spray element, the valve body is a first valve body, the valve member is a first valve member, the longitudinal axis is a first longitudinal axis, the predetermined rotational position is a first predetermined rotational position, and the fluid inlet is a first fluid inlet, wherein the dishwasher further comprises: a second tubular spray element disposed in the wash tub and being rotatable about a second longitudinal axis thereof, the second tubular spray element including one or more apertures extending through an exterior surface thereof; a second valve body coupled to the second tubular spray element for rotation about the second longitudinal axis with the second tubular spray element, the second valve body including a second fluid inlet configured to receive fluid from the fluid supply; and a second valve member disposed at a second predetermined rotational position about the second longitudinal axis to restrict fluid flow to the second tubular spray element when the second fluid inlet is rotated to the second predetermined rotational position; wherein the tubular spray element drive is configured to maintain the first fluid inlet of the first valve body at the first predetermined rotational position to restrict fluid flow to the first tubular spray element while the pump is operating and fluid is being supplied to the second tubular spray element by the fluid supply. 4. The dishwasher of claim 3 , wherein: the tubular spray element drive is a first tubular spray element drive, the dishwasher further comprises a second tubular spray element drive coupled to the second tubular spray element and configured to discretely direct the second tubular spray element to each of a plurality of rotational positions about the second longitudinal axis thereof while the first tubular spray element drive is maintaining the first fluid inlet of the first valve body at the first predetermined rotational position to restrict fluid flow to the first tubular spray element, and the second tubular spray element drive is further configured to rotate the second fluid inlet of the second valve body to the second predetermined rotational position and maintain the second fluid inlet of the second valve body at the second predetermined rotational position to restrict fluid flow to the second tubular spray element while the first tubular spray element drive discretely directs the first tubular spray element to spray fluid onto utensils in the wash tub. 5. The dishwasher of claim 4 , further comprising a controller coupled to the fluid supply and the first and second tubular spray element drives, wherein the controller is configured to selectively control the second tubular spray element drive to rotate the second fluid inlet to the second predetermined rotational position while controlling the first tubular spray element drive to discretely direct the first tubular spray element to direct a spray of fluid onto utensils in the wash tub to maintain a combined output of the first and second tubular spray elements within an output envelope of the fluid supply. 6. The dishwasher of claim 5 , further comprising a position sensor configured to sense rotation of the second valve body, wherein the controller is configured to determine when the second fluid inlet is rotated to the second predetermined rotational position using the position sensor. 7. The dishwasher of claim 6 , wherein the controller is further configured to control a direction of spray by the second tubular spray element using the position sensor. 8. The dishwasher of claim 3 , further comprising: a rack supported in the wash tub and movable between a loading position and a washing position, wherein the first and second tubular spray elements are supported by the rack for movement with the rack and include respective first and second connectors for receiving fluid; and a docking arrangement coupled to a rear wall of the wash tub and configured to engage with the connectors of the first and second tubular spray elements when the rack is in the washing position to supply fluid to the first and second tubular spray elements, the docking arrangement including: a first rotatable docking port positioned to receive the connector of the first tubular spray element when the rack is moved from the loading position to the washing position and rotatable about the a first axis of rotation, the first rotatable docking port further configured to engage the connector of the first tubular spray element such that the first tubular spray element rotates about the first axis of rotation along with rotation of the first rotatable docking port, wherein the first rotatable docking port includes the first valve body and wherein the tubular spray element drive is coupled to the first rotatable docking port such that rotation of the first rotatable docking port by the tubular spray element drive when the connector of the first tubular spray element is received in the first rotatable docking port additionally causes rotation of the first tubular spray element. 9. The dishwasher of claim 8 , wherein the tubular spray element drive is a first tubular spray element drive, wherein the dishwasher further comprises a second tubular spray element drive coupled to the second tubular spray element and configured to discretely direct the second tubular spray element to each of a plurality of rotational positions about the second longitudinal axis thereof, and wherein the docking arrangement further comprises a second rotatable docking port positioned to receive the connector of the second tubular spray element when the rack is moved from the loading position to the washing position and rotatable about the a second axis of rotation, the second rotatable docking port further configured to e
