Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An oral care system that includes an oral care implement and a tracking attachment. The oral care implement may include a handle and a head. The tracking attachment is detachably coupled to the oral care implement. The tracking attachment may include an outer casing having an outer surface and a connection element that is configured to mate with a connection element on a handle of the powered oral care implement to couple the outer casing to the handle. The tracking attachment may further include a plurality of visual markers protruding from the outer surface of the outer casing.

What is claimed is: 1. A tracking module configured to be detachably coupled to a powered oral care implement, the tracking module comprising: an outer casing comprising a proximal end, a distal end opposite the proximal end, an upper surface adjacent to the proximal end, a lower surface adjacent to the distal end, and a connection element that is configured to mate with a connection element on a handle of the powered oral care implement to couple the outer casing to the handle, the connection element of the outer casing being adjacent the proximal end; and a plurality of visual markers each comprising a semispherical outer surface, the plurality of visual markers protruding only from the lower surface of the outer casing. 2. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of visual markers are configured to facilitate tracking at least one of a position, orientation, or movement of the powered oral care implement when the outer casing is coupled to the powered oral care implement. 3. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the outer casing comprises a cylindrical top portion that comprises the connection element and a bulbous bottom portion, the plurality of visual markers being located on the bulbous bottom portion. 4. The tracking module according to claim 3 wherein the cylindrical top portion comprises an inner surface, and wherein the connection element comprises a threaded portion located on the inner surface of the cylindrical top portion. 5. The tracking module according to claim 3 , wherein the bulbous bottom portion protrudes radially outwardly relative to the cylindrical top portion. 6. The tracking module according to claim 3 wherein the cylindrical top portion comprises an inner surface that defines a cavity, and wherein an electronics assembly of the powered oral care implement is configured to be positioned within the cavity of the cylindrical top portion of the outer casing when the outer casing is coupled to the handle of the powered oral care implement. 7. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the outer casing is formed from a rigid material and each of the plurality of visual markers is formed from a resilient material. 8. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the outer casing comprises a plurality of holes extending therethrough, and wherein each of the plurality of visual markers is coupled to the outer casing within one of the plurality of holes. 9. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of visual markers comprise an upper set of the visual markers arranged along a first ring in a spaced apart manner and a lower set of the visual markers arranged along a second ring in a spaced apart manner. 10. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of visual markers comprise a set of the visual markers that protrude from a bottom surface of the outer casing so that when the outer casing is positioned on a horizontal support surface and maintained in a vertical orientation the set of the visual markers that protrude from the bottom surface of the outer casing are in contact with the horizontal support surface. 11. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein adjacent ones of the plurality of visual markers comprise different colors. 12. The tracking module according to claim 1 wherein the outer casing comprises a first color and wherein the plurality of visual markers are formed from colors that differ from the first color. 13. A tracking module configured to be detachably coupled to a powered oral care implement, the tracking module comprising: an upper casing; a lower casing detachably coupled to the upper casing, the lower casing comprising an outer surface and a plurality of holes extending therethrough; a connection element that is configured to mate with a connection element on a handle of the powered oral care implement to couple the upper casing to the handle; and a plurality of visual markers each comprising a semispherical outer surface, the plurality of visual markers protruding from the outer surface of the lower casing; wherein each of the plurality of visual markers is coupled to the lower casing within one of the plurality of holes. 14. A tracking module configured to be detachably coupled to a powered oral care implement, the tracking module comprising: an upper casing; a lower casing detachably coupled to the upper casing, the lower casing comprising an outer surface; a connection element that is configured to mate with a connection element on a handle of the powered oral care implement to couple the upper casing to the handle; and a plurality of visual markers each comprising a semispherical outer surface, the plurality of visual markers protruding from the outer surface of the lower casing; wherein the plurality of visual markers comprise an upper set of the visual markers arranged along a first ring in a spaced apart manner and a lower set of the visual markers arranged along a second ring in a spaced apart manner, the upper set of the visual markers being spaced a first circumferential distance along the first ring, the lower set of the visual markers being spaced a second circumferential distance along the second ring, the first circumferential distance being greater than the second circumferential distance. 15. A tracking module configured to be detachably coupled to a powered oral care implement, the tracking module comprising: an outer casing comprising an outer surface and a connection element that is configured to mate with a connection element on a handle of the powered oral care implement to couple the outer casing to the handle; and a plurality of visual markers each comprising an anchor portion, a protruding portion that protrudes from the outer casing, and an intermediate portion that extends between the anchor portion and the protruding portion; wherein the anchor portion of each of the plurality of visual markers comprises a lower surface and a shoulder that extends radially from the lower surface of the anchor portion to couple each of the plurality of visual markers to the outer casing. 16. The tracking module of claim 15 wherein the shoulder of the anchor portion of each of the plurality of visual markers has a shoulder diameter that decreases with distance from the intermediate portion.
