Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system that incorporates aspects of the subject disclosure may perform operations including, for example, receiving an uplink signal generated by a communication device; generating an estimation of one or more downlink signals generated by one or more transmitters; detecting a passive intermodulation interference in the uplink signal, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is caused by the one or more transmitters, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is detected by the circuit based on a comparison of characteristics of the uplink signal with the estimation of the one or more downlink signals generated by the one or more transmitters, and wherein the one or more transmitters are unassociated with the communication device generating the uplink signal; and performing signal conditioning on the uplink signal to reduce the passive intermodulation interference. Other embodiments are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: receiving, by a circuit, a first uplink signal generated by a communication device without passive modulation interference; measuring, by the circuit, a time-domain profile and a frequency-domain profile of the first uplink signal to generate pre-determined profile thresholds; comparing, by the circuit, a second time-domain profile of a second uplink signal and a second frequency-domain profile of the second uplink signal with the pre-determined profile thresholds to detect a passive intermodulation interference in the second uplink signal, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is caused by one or more unknown downlink signals generated by one or more transmitters, wherein the one or more transmitters are unassociated with the communication device generating the first uplink signal; and performing, by the circuit, signal conditioning on the second uplink signal to reduce the passive intermodulation interference, wherein the signal conditioning is based on a profile of the passive modulation interference that the circuit calculates by mathematically solving a system of equations comprising coefficients for a known downlink signal from a transmitter associated with the communication device and unknown coefficients for the one or more unknown downlink signals. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile is generated according to a rolling average of samples of the known downlink signal. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the known downlink signal is sent from a base station comprising the circuit to the communication device, and wherein the profile is adjusted to mitigate time variances of the one or more unknown downlink signals. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the signal conditioning is applied in a cascaded way. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the estimations are based on measuring one or more, but not all of the unknown downlink signals. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performing further comprises performing signal conditioning on the second uplink signal in the time domain. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the estimations are determined from a power level of one or more spectral segments of the one or more unknown downlink signals. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the estimations are determined from a peak-to-average power ratio of one or more spectral segments of the one or more unknown downlink signals. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the estimations are determined from conditions in one or more spectral segments of the one or more unknown downlink signals. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the estimations are determined from one or more spectral segments of the one or more unknown downlink signals analyzed in the time domain. 11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising analyzing signal transitions of the one or more spectral segments of the one or more unknown downlink signals in the time domain. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the time-domain profile is determined according to a mean calculation of a magnitude and a power level of the signal, a median calculation of the magnitude and the power level of the signal, a peak calculation of the magnitude and the power level of the signal, a peak-to-average-power ratio calculation of the signal, a peak-to-average ratio magnitude calculation of the signal, or any combination thereof. 13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising obtaining downlink information associated with the one or more transmitters, wherein the circuit generates the estimations of one or more, but not all of the unknown downlink signals according to the downlink information of the one or more transmitters. 14. A base station, comprising: an antenna; and a circuit coupled to the antenna, the circuit facilitating operations including: receiving an uplink signal generated by a communication device; generating a time-domain profile and a frequency-domain profile of the uplink signal; detecting, by the circuit, a passive intermodulation interference in the uplink signal, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is caused by unknown signals of one or more transmitters that are non-linearly mixed with a downlink signal of the base station, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is detected by the circuit based on a characteristics of the uplink signal from the time-domain profile and the frequency-domain profile interfered by the passive intermodulation interference and compared to pre-determined profile thresholds, and wherein the one or more transmitters are unassociated with the base station; and performing signal conditioning on the uplink signal to reduce the passive intermodulation interference, wherein the signal conditioning is based on a profile of the passive modulation interference calculated by mathematically solving a system of equations comprising coefficients for a known downlink signal transmitted by the base station and unknown coefficients for the one or more unknown signals. 15. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the circuit generates the estimations of the one or more unknown signals generated by one or more transmitters. 16. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the circuit comprises a remote radio unit and/or a baseband processor unit. 17. The base station of claim 14 , wherein the uplink signal is received via a cable conforming to a common public radio interface (CPRI) protocol, and wherein the generating and the detecting is performed based on signaling data samples conforming to the CPRI protocol. 18. A machine-readable storage device, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: receiving an uplink signal generated by a communication device without interference; creating pre-determined profile thresholds from a time-domain profile and a frequency-domain profile of the uplink signal; detecting a passive intermodulation interference in a received uplink signal by comparison of characteristics of the received uplink signal with the pre-determined profile thresholds, wherein the passive intermodulation interference is caused by the one or more transmitters; and performing signal conditioning on the uplink signal to reduce the passive intermodulation interference, wherein the signal conditioning is based on a profile for the passive intermodulation interference calculated by mathematically solving a system of equations comprising coefficients for a known downlink signal from a transmitter associated with the communication device and unknown coefficients for one or more unknown downlink signals generated by the one or more transmitters. 19.
