Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An endoscope tip part including an exterior housing including a circumferentially extending side wall with a proximal opening, the circumferentially extending side wall defining an interior space with an air volume; a camera assembly positioned in the interior space so that the air volume envelops at least the distal portion of the camera assembly; and an interior housing part including a circumferentially extending closure surface and a circumferentially extending attachment surface, the interior housing part being positioned in the proximal opening; wherein the exterior housing and interior housing part are formed as separate prefabricated components, wherein the closure surface is configured for closing the proximal opening of the exterior housing so as to liquid-seal the air volume in the tip part, and wherein the attachment surface extends proximally from the proximal opening and is configured for attaching the interior housing part to another element of the tip part.

We claim: 1. A method for assembling an endoscope, the method comprising: providing an exterior housing including a circumferential side wall, a proximal opening, and a first stop surface, the cirumferential side wall including an internal surface surrounding an interior space of the exterior housing; providing an interior housing part including a closure wall, an attachment surface extending proximally from the closure wall, and a first tolerance compensating member extending distally from the closure wall, the first tolerance compensating member including a first light source seat, the closure wall comprising a closure surface and an interior surface opposite the closure surface and forming a cavity; providing a camera assembly including a holder, a first light emitting diode, a second light emitting diode, and an image sensor, the holder comprising an upstanding guide portion; aligning the upstanding guide portion of the holder in the cavity formed by the closure wall of the interior housing part to center the camera assembly in the cavity; aligning the first light emitting diode distally of the first tolerance compensating member; positioning the camera assembly in the interior space of the exterior housing; translating the interior housing part distally until the first light emitting diode contacts the first stop surface; and adhesivelly bonding the closure surface of the interior housing part to the internal surface of the exterior housing. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said adhesivelly bonding the closure surface comprises injecting an ultraviolet light curable adhesive into a gap formed between the closure surface and the internal surface of the exterior housing, the gap configured to draw the ultraviolet light curable adhesive by a capillary effect, and then irradiating the ultraviolet light curable adhesive with an ultraviolet light to harden the ultraviolet light curable adhesive. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the closure wall of the interior housing part forms a cable tube hole, the method further comprising inserting cables connected to the camera assembly into the cable tube hole from a distal side of the closure wall, adhesively bonding the upstanding guide portion to the interior surface of the closure wall of the interior housing part, and then affixing the attachment surface to a distal end segment of a bending section. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the attachment surface comprises cut-outs, the method further comprising filling the cut-outs with an adhesive, and affixing the attachment surface to a distal end segment of a bending section, wherein the adhesive in the cut-outs improves a connection between the attachment surface and the distal end segment of the bending section. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein after adhesivelly bonding the closure surface, the exterior housing, the interior housing part, and the camera assembly form a tip part of the endoscope, the method further comprising: testing the tip part for liquid tightness; and after said testing, affixing the attachment surface to a distal end segment of a bending section. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the exterior housing comprises a proximally extending light guide, and wherein a proximal surface of the light guide comprises the first stop surface. 7. The method of claim 1 , the method further comprising adhesively bonding the upstanding guide portion to the interior surface of the closure wall of the interior housing part. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the closure wall of the interior housing part forms a cable tube hole, the method further comprising inserting cables connected to the camera assembly into the cable tube hole from a distal side of the closure wall. 9. The method of claim 8 , the method further comprising inserting cables through a cable tube, inserting a distal end of the cable tube into the cable tube hole, and adhesivelly bonding the cable tube to the interior housing part. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first tolerance compensating member is sized and shaped to, in a pre-compensation condition, move the first light emitting diode distally along an optical axis of the first light emitting diode relative to the image sensor. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first light source seat is sized and shaped to adjust a distance between the first light emitting diode and the image sensor along the optical axis of the first light emitting diode. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the first light emitting diode is fixed to the first tolerance compensating member. 13. A method for assembling an endoscope, the method comprising: providing an exterior housing including a circumferential side wall, a proximal opening, and a first stop surface, the cirumferential side wall including an internal surface surrounding an interior space of the exterior housing; providing an interior housing part including a closure wall, an attachment surface extending proximally from the closure wall, a cable tube hole, and a first tolerance compensating member extending distally from the closure wall, the first tolerance compensating member including a first light source seat, the closure wall comprising a closure surface and an interior surface opposite the closure surface and forming a cavity accessible via the cable tube hole; providing a camera assembly including a first light emitting diode, a second light emitting diode, and an image sensor; inserting cables connected to the camera assembly into the cable tube hole from a distal side of the closure wall; aligning the first light emitting diode distally of the first tolerance compensating member; positioning the camera assembly in the interior space of the exterior housing; translating the interior housing part distally until the first light emitting diode contacts the first stop surface; and adhesivelly bonding the closure surface of the interior housing part to the internal surface of the exterior housing. 14. The method of claim 13 , the method further comprising inserting cables through a cable tube, inserting a distal end of the cable tube into the cable tube hole, and adhesivelly bonding the cable tube to the interior housing part. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the camera assembly includes a holder comprising an upstanding guide portion, the method further comprising aligning the upstanding guide portion of the holder in the cavity formed by the closure wall of the interior housing part to center the camera assembly in the cavity, and adhesively bonding the upstanding guide portion to the interior surface of the closure wall of the interior housing part. 16.
