Official abstract text for this publication.
In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a surgical cap is provided that includes a cover having a head-receiving cavity and a resilient member connected to the cover and extending about less than the entire head-receiving cavity. The cover includes a plurality of layers comprising at least one layer inward from the resilient member adapted to separate the resilient member from a head received in the head-receiving cavity and at least two outer layers outward from the resilient member to which the resilient member is secured. In accordance with another aspect, a method of fabricating a surgical cap is provided.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of fabricating a surgical cap, the method comprising: providing a single piece of material forming a body and a plurality of panels, the plurality of panels depending from the body and being coupled together to form a sidewall portion having a closed-loop configuration; folding the plurality of panels of the single piece of material into a first folded configuration; securing a resilient member to a portion of the single piece of material while the plurality of panels are in the first folded configuration; folding the plurality of panels of the single piece of material from the first folded configuration to a second folded configuration to form at least two inner layers of the single piece of material and at least four outer layers of the single piece of material, the at least two inner layers being inward of the resilient member and the at least four outer layers being outward of the resilient member, wherein the portion of the single piece of material to which the resilient member is secured is at least one of the at least four outer layers; and securing at least one of the at least two inner layers against an interior surface of the body, wherein the least two inner layers and at least four outer layers comprise: a first outer layer; a second outer layer that is connected to the first outer layer at a first fold; a third outer layer that is connected to the second outer layer at a second fold; a first inner layer that is connected to said third outer layer at a third fold; a second inner layer that is connected to said first inner layer at a fourth fold; and a fourth outer layer that is connected to said second inner layer at a fifth fold. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least two inner layers and the at least four outer layers are secured to sandwich the resilient member between the at least two inner layers and the at least four outer layers. 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising attaching a top to the sidewall portion, the top and the sidewall portion defining a head receiving cavity. 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the top and the sidewall portion are made of different materials. 5. The method of claim 3 wherein the at least two inner layers are directly coupled to the sidewall portion above the fifth fold. 6. The method of claim 1 , comprising a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, and the fourth outer layer. 7. The method of claim 1 , comprising a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, the fourth outer layer, and the resilient member. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the surgical cap comprises a stitched connection between the first inner layer and the second inner layer. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the surgical cap comprises a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, and the fourth outer layer, a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, the fourth outer layer, and the resilient member, and a stitched connection between the first inner layer, the second inner layer, and the sidewall portion. 10. A method of fabricating a surgical cap, the method comprising: providing a single piece of material forming a sidewall portion, the sidewall portion configured such that opposing ends of the sidewall portion are coupled together to form a closed-loop body; folding a panel of the single piece of material to form at least two inner layers and at least four outer layers outward of the closed-loop body; securing a resilient member to at least one of the outer four layers; and securing at least one of the outer four layers against an interior surface of the closed-loop body; wherein the least two inner layers and at least four outer layers comprise: a first outer layer; a second outer layer that is connected to the first outer layer at a first fold; a third outer layer that is connected to the second outer layer at a second fold; a first inner layer that is connected to said third outer layer at a third fold; a second inner layer that is connected to said first inner layer at a fourth fold; and a fourth outer layer that is connected to said second inner layer at a fifth fold. 11. The method of claim 10 , comprising a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, and the fourth outer layer. 12. The method of claim 10 , comprising a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, the fourth outer layer, and the resilient member. 13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the surgical cap comprises a stitched connection between the first inner layer and the second inner layer. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the surgical cap comprises a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, and the fourth outer layer, a stitched connection between the second outer layer, the third outer layer, the fourth outer layer, and the resilient member, and a stitched connection between the first inner layer, the second inner layer, and the sidewall portion.
