Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Medical devices and methods for making and using medical devices are disclosed. An example medical device may include a guide extension catheter. The guide extension catheter may include a proximal member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a proximal diameter. The guide extension catheter may additionally include a collar member attached to the distal end of the proximal member, the collar member comprising a base portion and one or more ribs connected to the base portion and extending distally away from the base portion. In still some additional embodiments, the guide extension catheter may further include a distal sheath member attached to the collar member, the distal sheath member having a distal diameter larger than the proximal diameter.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A collar member for a guide extension catheter comprising: a base portion defining a proximal end of the collar member; a distally extending portion defining a distal end of the collar member, the distally extending portion extending from the base portion and comprising: an angled extension connected to the base portion and extending distally away from the base portion; and one or more extension members connected to the angled extension and extending distally away from the angled extension. 2. The collar member of claim 1 , wherein the angled extension is connected to the base portion at an angle in a range of 15 degrees to 75 degrees. 3. The collar member of claim 1 , further comprising: a plurality of extension members extending distally from the base portion. 4. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle extending from a respective extension member of the plurality of extension members to a top of the base portion in a range of 15 degrees to 75 degrees. 5. The collar member of claim 4 , wherein the one or more extension members extend from the angled extension at an angle relative to the top of the base portion that is the same as the angle at which the plurality of extension members connect to the base portion. 6. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle that is transverse to an angle at which the angled extension is connected to the base portion. 7. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle of connection in a first direction and the angled extension is connected to the base portion at the angle of connection in a second direction. 8. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein one or more of the plurality of extension members extend distally from the base portion a distance different than a distance of one or more other extension members of the plurality of extension members extend distally from the base portion. 9. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members extends away from the base portion a same distance. 10. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of extension members extend away from the base portion in a helical manner. 11. The collar member of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of extension members extend helically around a longitudinal axis of the collar member within a range of 90 degrees to 360 degrees. 12. A collar member for a guide extension catheter comprising: a hollow tube defining: a base portion; an angled extension extending from a top of the base portion and distally away from the base portion; and one or more extension members connected to the angled extension and extending distally away from the angled extension. 13. The collar member of claim 12 , wherein the angled extension is connected to the base portion at an angle of between 15 degrees and 75 degrees. 14. The collar member of claim 12 , wherein the hollow tube further defines a plurality of extension members extending distally from the base portion. 15. The collar member of claim 14 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle extending from a respective extension member of the plurality of extension members to the top of the base portion in a range of 15 degrees to 75 degrees. 16. The collar member of claim 14 , wherein the one or more extension members extend from the angled extension at an angle relative to the top of the base portion that is the same as the angle at which the plurality of extension members connect to the base portion. 17. The collar member of claim 14 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle that is transverse to an angle at which the angled extension is connected to the base portion. 18. The collar member of claim 14 , wherein each of the plurality of extension members are connected to the base portion at an angle of connection in a first direction and the angled extension is connected to the base portion at the angle of connection in a second direction. 19. A collar member for a guide extension catheter comprising: a hollow tube defining: a base portion configured to couple to a distal end of a proximal member; a distally extending portion configured to couple to a distal sheath member, the distally extending portion defining portions removed from the hollow tube, and wherein the portions removed from the hollow tube define a pattern extending from a top of the base portion at an angle in a range of 15 degrees to 75 degrees. 20. The collar member of claim 19 , wherein the distally extending portion defines a rib that extends from the top of the base portion at an angle transverse to the angle at which the pattern extends from the tube of the base portion.
