Abstract

An adjustable child carrier includes an adjustable bucket seat that can be adjusted to accommodate children of a wide range of sizes. The child carrier includes one or more adjustments that work alone or in cooperation to adjust the depth and width of the bucket seat area provided by the child carrier. The carrier is capable of supporting children of various sizes in an ergonomic position appropriate for the child's size.

First claim

The invention claimed is:

1. An adjustable child carrier for supporting a child by a user, the adjustable child carrier comprising:
an adjustable waist belt configured to wrap around a torso of the user;
one or more adjustable shoulder straps;
a torso support portion configured to support a torso of the child;
an adjustable neck support;
a first set of neck support fasteners,
wherein securing the adjustable neck support to the first set of neck support fasteners configures the adjustable neck support in an upward position;

a second set of neck support fasteners,
wherein securing the adjustable neck support to the second set of neck support fasteners configures the adjustable neck support in a downward position;

a first thigh support;
a second thigh support;
a seat portion,
wherein the seat portion cooperates with the first thigh support and the second thigh support to form a bucket seat;

one or more thigh width adjusters; and
one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners attached to the seat portion;
wherein the one or more thigh width adjusters are configured to couple to the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners,
wherein the one or more thigh width adjusters adjusts the bucket seat when coupled to the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners.

2. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners are configured to adjust the first thigh support and the second thigh support to adjust a width of the bucket seat.

3. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , further comprising:
a first base adjuster and a second base adjuster,
wherein the first base adjuster selectively adjusts the first thigh support and the second base adjuster selectively adjusts the second thigh support to thereby adjust a depth of the bucket seat.

4. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the first set of neck support fasteners are disposed on the one or more adjustable shoulder straps for providing the adjustable neck support in the upward position, and
wherein the first set of neck support fasteners secure the adjustable neck support in the upward position when the child is positioned to face the user.

5. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the second set of neck support fasteners are disposed on the torso support portion for securing the adjustable neck support in the downward position,
wherein the second set of neck support fasteners secures the adjustable neck support in the downward position when the child is positioned to face away from the user.

6. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the torso support portion comprises a breathable outer layer.

7. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the one or more adjustable shoulder straps is a first adjustable shoulder strap and a second adjustable shoulder strap; and

further comprising a chest strap coupled to the first adjustable shoulder strap and the second adjustable shoulder strap,
wherein the chest strap is adjustable along a first length of the first adjustable shoulder strap and a second length of the second adjustable shoulder strap.

8. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners comprises one or more buttons.

9. The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 ,
wherein the torso support portion, the seat portion, the first thigh support, and the second thigh support, in combination provide a child carrying area,
wherein folding the adjustable neck support down inside the child carrying area configured the adjustable neck support in a folded down position,
wherein, in the folded down position, the adjustable neck support is adapted to fit behind and support a neck or head of an infant.

10. An adjustable child carrier for supporting a child by a user, the adjustable child carrier comprising:
an adjustable waist belt configured to wrap a torso of the user;
one or more adjustable shoulder straps;
a torso support portion configured to support a torso of a child;
an adjustable neck support;
a first set of neck support fasteners,
wherein securing the adjustable neck support to the first set of neck support fasteners configures the adjustable neck support in an upward position;

a second set of neck support fasteners,
wherein securing the adjustable neck support to the second set of neck support fasteners configures the adjustable neck support in a downward position;

a seat portion;
a first thigh support connected to the seat portion;
a second thigh support connected to the seat portion opposite the first thigh support,
wherein the torso support portion, the seat portion, the first thigh support, and the second thigh support, in combination provide a child carrying area,
wherein the seat portion cooperates with the first thigh support and the second thigh support to form a bucket seat;

one or more thigh width adjusters; and
one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners attached to the seat portion;
wherein the one or more thigh width adjusters are configured to couple to the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners,
wherein the one or more thigh width adjusters adjusts a width of the bucket seat when coupled to the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners.

11. The adjustable child carrier of claim 10 ,
wherein each of the one or more thigh width adjusters comprises a first end and a second end,
wherein each of the first ends of the one or more thigh width adjusters couples to the first thigh support or the second thigh support,
wherein each of the second ends of the one or more thigh width adjusters is selectively couplable to the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners.

12. The adjustable child carrier of claim 10 ,
further comprising:
one or more base adjusters,
wherein the one or more base adjusters selectively adjust the first thigh support or the second thigh support to thereby adjust a depth of the bucket seat.

13. The adjustable child carrier of claim 10 ,
wherein the one or more adjustable shoulder straps is a first adjustable shoulder strap and a second adjustable shoulder strap; and

further comprising a chest strap coupled to the first adjustable shoulder strap and the second adjustable shoulder strap,
wherein the chest strap is adjustable along a first length of the first adjustable shoulder strap and a second length of the second adjustable shoulder strap.

14. The adjustable child carrier of claim 10 ,
wherein the one or more thigh width adjuster fasteners comprises one or more buttons.

15. The adjustable child carrier of claim 10 , further comprising:
a first thigh support padding provided on the first thigh support; and
a second thigh support padding provided on the second thigh support.

16. An adjustable child carrier for supporting a child by a user, the adjustable child carrier comprising:
an adjustable waist belt configured to wrap around a torso of the user;
one or more adjustable shoulder straps;
a torso support portion configured to support a torso of the child;
a seat portion;
a first thigh support connected to the seat portion;
a second thigh support connected to the seat portion opposite the first thigh support,
wherein the seat portion cooperates with the first thigh support and the second thigh support to form a bucket seat;

an adjustable neck support configured to support a neck or a head of the child;
a first set of neck support fasteners disposed on the one or more adjustable shoulder straps for securing the adjustable neck support in an upward position,
