Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments including methods and apparatus to share file and file recommendations are disclosed. Data is received indicating a particular media item from a first service provider, where the particular media item is accessible from the first service provider according to a first pointer. A second pointer is identified in a database according to which the particular media item is accessible from a second service provider. Data indicating the second pointer is transmitted to a media playback system, via at least one of a WAN or a LAN.

The invention claimed is: 1. A computing system comprising: at least one processor; at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium; and program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to: receive, from a first user device registered with a first service account of a first service, a first pointer to a particular media item available via the first service, wherein the first pointer is usable to retrieve the particular media item from the first service for playback; receive, from the first user device, an indication of a user selection of a selectable icon of a graphical user interface of the first user device, wherein the user selection indicates a request to share the particular media item; determine a second service account with which the particular media item is to be shared; determine that the second service account has access to the particular media item via a second service; and based on the determination that the second service account has access to the particular media item via the second service: identify a second pointer to the particular media item available via the second service, wherein the second pointer is usable to retrieve the particular media item from the second service for playback; and transmit the second pointer to a second user device registered with the second service account. 2. The computing system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to: based on a determination that the second service account has access to the particular media item via the first service, transmit the first pointer to the second user device registered with the second service account. 3. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein: the selectable icon of the graphical user interface is a first selectable icon; the computing system further comprises program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive, from the first user device, an indication of a user selection of a second selectable icon of the graphical user interface of the first user device, wherein the user selection of the second selectable icon indicates the second service account; and the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to determine the second service account with which the particular media item is to be shared comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to determine the second service account based on the indication of the second service account received from the first user device. 4. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein: the computing system further comprises program instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive, from the second user device, an indication of a user selection of a selectable icon of a graphical user interface of the second user device, wherein the user selection of the selectable icon of the graphical user interface of the second user device indicates a request for the particular media item; and the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to determine the second service account with which the particular media item is to be shared comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to determine the second service account based on the request for the particular media item. 5. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive the first pointer from the first user device comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive the first pointer from the first user device based on an input received via the first user device. 6. The computing system of claim 5 , wherein the selectable icon of the graphical user interface of the first user device is a first selectable icon, and wherein the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive the first pointer from the first user device based on the input received via the first user device comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing system is configured to receive the first pointer based on an indication of a user selection of a second selectable icon of the graphical user interface of the first user device, wherein the second selectable icon corresponds to the particular media item. 7. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the first pointer comprises a uniform resource locator (URL) or a uniform resource indicator (URI). 8. A non-transitory computer-readable medium, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium is provisioned with program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computing system to: receive, from a first user device registered with a first service account of a first service, a first pointer to a particular media item available via the first service, wherein the first pointer is usable to retrieve the particular media item from the first service for playback; receive, from the first user device, an indication of a user selection of a selectable icon of a graphical user interface of the first user device, wherein the user selection indicates a request to share the particular media item; determine a second service account with which the particular media item is to be shared; determine that the second service account has access to the particular media item via a second service; and based on the determination that the second service account has access to the particular media item via the second service: identify a second pointer to the particular media item available via the second service, wherein the second pointer is usable to retrieve the particular media item from the second service for playback; and transmit the second pointer to a second user device registered with the second service account. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium is also provisioned with program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing system to: based on a determination that the second service account has access to the particular media item via the first service, transmit the first pointer to the second user device registered with the second service account. 10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein: the selectable icon of the graphical user interface is a first selectable icon; the non-transitory computer-readable medium is also provisioned with program instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing system to receive, from the first user device, an indication of a user selection of a second selectable icon of the graphical user interface of the first user device, wherein the user selection of the second selectable icon indicates the second service account; a
