What is claimed is: 1. A sole structure for an article of footwear having an upper, the sole structure comprising: an outsole having a ground-engaging surface and an upper surface formed on an opposite side of the outsole than the ground-engaging surface; a midsole attached to the outsole and including an outer perimeter surface extending between the outsole and the upper, the midsole including an upper portion that includes a first thickness extending from an upper surface to a lower surface and a lower portion that includes a second thickness extending from an upper surface to a lower surface, the first thickness gradually decreases between a forefoot region and a heel region and the second thickness gradually increases between the forefoot region and the heel region; and a plate disposed between the upper portion and the lower portion of the midsole and extending (i) from the forefoot region of the sole structure, (ii) through a metatarsophalangeal (MTP) point of the sole structure, and (iii) toward the heel region of the sole structure, the plate including an upper surface that contacts the lower surface of the upper portion of the midsole, a lower surface that contacts the upper surface of the lower portion of the midsole, a curved portion in the forefoot region, and a substantially flat portion in the heel region, a first plate portion extending from the outer perimeter surface of the midsole. 2. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first plate portion extends from the outer perimeter surface at one of a medial side of the sole structure and a lateral side of the sole structure. 3. The sole structure of claim 2 , wherein the plate includes a second plate portion extending from the outer perimeter surface of the midsole. 4. The sole structure of claim 3 , wherein the second plate portion is disposed on an opposite side of the plate than the first plate portion. 5. The sole structure of claim 3 , wherein the second plate portion is disposed at the other of the medial side and the lateral side. 6. The sole structure of claim 3 , wherein the first plate portion and the second plate portion are aligned with the MTP point. 7. The sole structure of claim 3 , wherein the second plate portion is diametrically opposed to the first plate portion. 8. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first plate portion extends from a heel region of the sole structure. 9. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first plate portion includes a main body extending from the outer perimeter surface of the midsole and a flange extending from the main body in a direction away from the outsole. 10. An article of footwear incorporating the sole structure of claim 1 . 11. A sole structure for an article of footwear having an upper, the sole structure comprising: an outsole having a ground-engaging surface and an upper surface formed on an opposite side of the outsole than the ground-engaging surface; a midsole attached to the outsole and including an outer perimeter surface extending between the outsole and the upper, the midsole including an upper portion that includes a first thickness extending from an upper surface to a lower surface and a lower portion that includes a second thickness extending from an upper surface to a lower surface, the first thickness gradually decreases between a forefoot region and a heel region and the second thickness gradually increases between the forefoot region and the heel region; and a plate disposed between the upper portion and the lower portion of the midsole and extending (i) from the forefoot region of the sole structure, (ii) through a metatarsophalangeal (MTP) point of the sole structure, and (iii) toward the heel region of the sole structure, the plate including a curved portion in the forefoot region and a substantially flat portion in the heel region, and a first plate portion defining a first hinge portion and a second plate portion defining a second hinge portion. 12. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first plate portion extends from the outer perimeter surface at one of a medial side of the sole structure and a lateral side of the sole structure. 13. The sole structure of claim 12 , wherein the second plate portion extends from the outer perimeter surface at the other of the medial side of the sole structure and the lateral side of the sole structure. 14. The sole structure of claim 13 , wherein the second plate portion is disposed on an opposite side of the plate than the first plate portion. 15. The sole structure of claim 13 , wherein the second plate portion is disposed at the other of the medial side and the lateral side. 16. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first plate portion and the second plate portion are aligned with the MTP point. 17. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the second plate portion is diametrically opposed to the first plate portion. 18. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first plate portion and the second plate portion extend along a longitudinal axis passing through the plate at a localized area of increased rigidity of the plate. 19. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first plate portion includes a first main body extending from the outer perimeter surface of the midsole and the first hinge portion includes a first flange extending from the first main body in a direction away from the outsole and the second plate portion includes a second main body extending from the outer perimeter surface of the midsole and the second hinge portion includes a second flange extending from the second main body in a direction away from the outsole. 20. An article of footwear incorporating the sole structure of claim 11 .
