Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Various apparatuses to attach a first medical device to a second medical device are described that allow the physician to grasp only a single device while the other device remains securely attached to the one being grasped. The apparatuses, once they are attached to the first medical device, are designed to be easily and quickly attached and detached to a second medical device, normally only requiring the use of one hand. Furthermore, the apparatuses oftentimes include a base that can easily couple and decouple from the portion that is attached to the second medical device so that if the need arises to separately use the second medical device, it can be decoupled from the first medical device without completely removing the apparatus from the second medical device.

The invention claimed is: 1. A medical apparatus comprising: a first portion attached to a medical scope, the first portion including an aperture; and a second portion attached to a device, the second portion including a post, wherein the second portion is slidable relative to the first portion for coupling the second portion to the first portion, wherein, upon sliding the second portion relative to the first portion, the post of the second portion is received by the aperture of the first portion. 2. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first portion includes a first face opposite a second face, wherein the aperture extends vertically along the first face of the first portion, and wherein the second face of the first portion is attached to the medical scope. 3. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second portion includes a strap. 4. The medical apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the strap extends at least partially around the device to attach the second portion to the device. 5. The medical apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the second portion includes an opening to receive a second end of the strap. 6. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second portion is configured to at least partially surround a perimeter of the device. 7. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the medical scope is an endoscope. 8. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first portion is attached to the medical scope by one or more mechanical fasteners. 9. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second portion comprises a deformable material. 10. The medical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second portion is configured for attachment to and detachment from the device. 11. A medical apparatus comprising: a first component configured for attachment to a first medical device, wherein the first component includes a button and a tab; and a second component for coupling to, and uncoupling from, the first component, wherein the second component is configured for attachment to a second medical device wherein, to couple the second component to the first component, the tab of the first component is received within the second component, and wherein, to uncouple the second component from the first component, the button of the first component is depressed to move the tab. 12. The medical apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the button is disposed on a side face of the first component. 13. The medical apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first component is configured for detachment from the first medical device. 14. The medical apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the second component includes a first side opposite a second side, wherein the first side includes an opening configured to receive the tab of the first component, and wherein the second side is configured to receive the second medical device. 15. The medical apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the first medical device is a first scope, and the second medical device is a second scope. 16. A medical apparatus comprising: a base component configured for attachment to a first medical device; and a second component configured for attachment to a second medical device, wherein the second component is slidable relative to the base component for coupling the second component to the base component, wherein, upon sliding the second component relative to the base component, at least a portion of the second component is received by the base component. 17. The medical apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the base component includes a slot, and wherein the second component includes a post, wherein the slot receives the post to attach the second component to the base component. 18. The medical apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the second component includes at least one of a strap, a ring, or a clamp configured to at least partially surround a perimeter of the second medical device, and wherein the second component includes a locking mechanism for locking the strap, the ring, or the clamp in position around the second medical device. 19. The medical apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the first medical device is an endoscope. 20. The medical apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the second component comprises a deformable material.
