Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A foundation for a subsea assembly is provided. The foundation includes connection points. The connection points permit other components to be connected to the foundation and permit loads to transfer from the other components into the foundation. The foundation may be a suction anchor. A method of converting an exploration well using the foundation to a production well is also provided.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: providing a subsea well assembly, the subsea well assembly comprising a foundation and a wellhead comprising a low pressure wellhead housing or a high pressure wellhead housing, the wellhead extending through the foundation, and the foundation comprising connection points; using the subsea well assembly as an exploration well assembly; and converting the exploration well assembly to a production well assembly comprising connecting at least one component to the foundation by attaching the at least one component to at least one of the connection points. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein no components are connected to the connection points when the subsea well assembly is being used as the exploration well assembly. 3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one component comprises a support device or a subsea equipment adapter frame and converting the exploration well assembly to the production well assembly further comprises installing the support device or the subsea equipment adapter frame on the foundation. 4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein providing the subsea well assembly comprises installing the subsea well assembly using at least one of the connection points as a lift point. 5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising using at least one of the connection points to connect components mounted on the wellhead. 6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising using at least one of the connection points to connect a protection structure to protect the subsea well assembly. 7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points permits a load to transfer from the at least one component into the foundation. 8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the connection points are equally spaced around an outer perimeter of the foundation. 9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the foundation is a suction anchor. 10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points is an additional part that protrudes from the foundation to provide an attachment point for the at least one component to be mounted on the foundation. 11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points has an adjustable height. 12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein each of the connection points comprises or is arranged to be connected to a guide device. 13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points is stronger than adjacent parts of the foundation. 14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the connection points the are at an outer perimeter of the foundation. 15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points extends beyond a top of the foundation. 16. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points is integral with the foundation. 17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the connection points has a profile that permits load transfer or locking of the at least one component. 18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein each of the connection points comprises a base portion integral with the foundation and a connection portion for component attachment. 19. A keeper well convertible from an exploration well to a production well according to the method of claim 1 . 20. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a wellhead load relief device is connected between at least one of the connection points on the foundation and at least one component that is mounted on the wellhead.
