Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and apparatus provide for processing information for a head-mounted display for blocking out an outside world from a user's vision when worn by the user to present a video, by carrying out actions comprising: measuring outside world information; detecting whether or not the measured information contains any notification information to be notified to the user, including detection of moving objects as notification information; and notifying the user when notification information is detected.

The invention claimed is: 1. A head-mounted display for blocking out an outside world from a user's vision when worn by the user to present a video, the head-mounted display comprising: an outside world measurement section adapted to measure outside world information; a notification information detection section adapted to detect whether or not the information measured by the outside world measurement section contains any notification information to be notified to the user, including that the notification information detection section detects moving objects as notification information; and a notification section adapted to notify the user when the notification information detection section detects notification information. 2. The head-mounted display of claim 1 , wherein detection of the moving objects occurs when the moving objects move at a predetermined speed or greater. 3. The head-mounted display of claim 1 , wherein an area within which the user is permitted to move as displayed on the head mounted display is controlled to be smaller based on the moving objects. 4. The head-mounted display of claim 1 , wherein the outside world measurement section is a stereo camera with at least two cameras. 5. The head-mounted display of claim 1 , wherein when the notification information detection section detects one of the moving objects, the notification to the user by the notification section is triggered by the fact that a distance between the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects becomes shorter than a given reference distance. 6. The head-mounted display of claim 5 , further comprising: a position measurement section adapted to detect a position of the head-mounted display, wherein the notification section acquires the distance between the position of the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects based on the position of the head-mounted display detected by the position measurement section. 7. The head-mounted display of claim 1 , wherein: the outside world measurement section is adapted to measure respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects; and the user sets a reference position within the outside world from which the outside world measurement section is adapted to measure respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects. 8. An information processing method carried out by a processor of a head-mounted display for blocking out an outside world from a user's vision when worn by the user to present a video, the method comprising: measuring outside world information; detecting whether or not the measured information contains any notification information to be notified to the user, including detection of moving objects as notification information; and notifying the user when notification information is detected. 9. The information processing method of claim 8 , wherein detection of the moving objects occurs when the moving objects move at a predetermined speed or greater. 10. The information processing method of claim 8 , wherein an area within which the user is permitted to move as displayed on the head mounted display is controlled to be smaller based on the moving objects. 11. The information processing method of claim 8 , wherein the measuring outside world information is carried out by a stereo camera with at least two cameras. 12. The information processing method of claim 8 , wherein when the detecting detects one of the moving objects, the notification to the user is triggered by the fact that a distance between the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects becomes shorter than a given reference distance. 13. The information processing method of claim 12 , further comprising: detecting a position of the head-mounted display, wherein the detecting includes acquiring the distance between the position of the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects based on the position of the head-mounted display as detected. 14. The information processing method of claim 8 , wherein: the measuring outside world information includes measuring respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects; and permitting the user to set a reference position within the outside world from which the measuring is adapted to measure respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects. 15. A non-transitory, computer readable storage medium containing a computer program, which when executed by a processor of a head-mounted display for blocking out an outside world from a user's vision when worn by the user to present a video, causes the head mounted display to carry out actions, comprising: measuring outside world information; detecting whether or not the measured information contains any notification information to be notified to the user, including that the notification information detection section detects moving objects as notification information; and notifying the user when notification information is detected. 16. The non-transitory, computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein detection of the moving objects occurs when the moving objects move at a predetermined speed or greater. 17. The non-transitory, computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein an area within which the user is permitted to move as displayed on the head mounted display is controlled to be smaller based on the moving objects. 18. The non-transitory, computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein when the detecting detects one of the moving objects, the notification to the user is triggered by the fact that a distance between the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects becomes shorter than a given reference distance. 19. The non-transitory, computer readable storage medium of claim 18 , further comprising: detecting a position of the head-mounted display, wherein the detecting includes acquiring the distance between the position of the head-mounted display and the one of the moving objects based on the position of the head-mounted display as detected. 20. The non-transitory, computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein: the measuring outside world information includes measuring respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects; and permitting the user to set a reference position within the outside world from which the measuring is adapted to measure respective distances between the head-mounted display and the moving objects.
