Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A caster board can include a front platform, a rear platform, and at least two neck sections extending between the front platform and the rear platform. The neck sections can serve as a torsion element allowing twisting of the front platform relative to the rear platform. An aperture between the neck sections can be configured to receive an insert. The insert can alter a structural characteristic of the caster board, such as the torsional stiffness of the caster board.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A caster board comprising: a front platform section comprising a first caster assembly; a rear platform section comprising a second caster assembly; a first neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section; a second neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section; an aperture between the first neck section and the second neck section, the aperture having a shape; and an insert that has a shape corresponding to the shape of the aperture, the insert being insertable into the aperture; wherein the insert is insertable into the aperture in only a single orientation. 2. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the shape of the insert is longitudinally and vertically asymmetrical. 3. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the aperture comprises a through-hole extending through the caster board. 4. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the first neck section and the second neck section each comprise a straight wall through the caster board. 5. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the insert is configured to alter a torsional stiffness of the caster board. 6. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the insert comprises a downlight that is configured to illuminate an area underneath the insert. 7. The caster board of claim 1 , wherein the insert comprises a battery. 8. The caster board of claim 6 , wherein the insert is configured to secure a cellphone. 9. A caster board comprising: a front platform section comprising a first caster assembly; a rear platform section comprising a second caster assembly; a first neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section; a second neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section; an aperture between the first neck section and the second neck section; and an insert that is insertable into the aperture; wherein, when inserted in the aperture, the insert occupies only a portion of the aperture. 10. The caster board of claim 9 , wherein, when inserted in the aperture, an upper surface of the insert is generally flush with an upper surface of the front platform section or the rear platform section. 11. The caster board of claim 9 , wherein the aperture comprises a through-hole extending through the caster board. 12. The caster board of claim 9 , wherein the aperture comprises a blind hole. 13. The caster board of claim 9 , further comprising a longitudinal axis, and wherein a first longitudinal end of the aperture is wider than a second longitudinal end of the aperture. 14. The caster board of claim 9 , wherein the insert comprises a global positioning system (GPS) tracker. 15. A caster board comprising: a front platform section comprising a front deck and a first caster assembly; a rear platform section comprising a rear deck and a second caster assembly; a neck comprising: a first neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section, the first neck section having a first sidewall; a second neck section extending between the front platform section and the rear platform section, the second neck section having a second sidewall; an aperture between the first neck section and the second neck section, the aperture having a length and a width, the length being greater than the width; and a plurality of ribs extending generally laterally between the first and second sidewalls except where the ribs intersect the aperture. 16. The caster board of claim 15 , wherein the aperture comprises a blind hole extending partway through a thickness of the neck, the gap comprising a storage compartment configured to store keys, a wallet, or an identification card. 17. The caster board of claim 15 , further comprising a longitudinal axis, and wherein a first longitudinal end of the aperture is wider than a second longitudinal end of the aperture. 18. The caster board of claim 15 , wherein the first neck section has a first straight wall on a first lateral side of the aperture and the second neck section has a second straight wall on a second lateral side of the aperture, the second lateral side opposite the first lateral side. 19. The caster board of claim 15 , wherein the front deck, rear deck, and neck are a single molded plastic component.
