The invention claimed is: 1. A filter for use in a high flow respiratory support system for delivering humidified gas to a user or a patient, the filter comprising: a housing comprising a gases inlet port and a gases outlet port; wherein at least one of the gases inlet port and the gases outlet port comprises at least a pair of male connection fingers extending from at least one of the gases inlet port and the gases outlet port, wherein the pair of male connection fingers are adapted for connection with a connector provided at a terminal end of a conduit; wherein at least one of the gases inlet port and/or gases outlet port comprises at least one sealing member; and wherein the at least one sealing member provides at least one sealing surface that seals with a surface of the connector provided at the terminal end of the conduit, and wherein the surface of the connector is brought to bear upon the at least one sealing surface. 2. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the gases inlet port comprises a gases inlet port coupling feature and the gases outlet port comprises a gases outlet port coupling feature, wherein the gases inlet port coupling feature and the gases outlet port coupling feature are different coupling features. 3. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the gases outlet port comprises a medical taper connection. 4. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the gases outlet port comprises a 22 mm medical taper connection. 5. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the pair of male connection fingers extend from the gases inlet port. 6. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the pair of male connection fingers comprise indentations or recesses shaped for engagement of a projection or protrusion located on the connector at a terminal end of the conduit. 7. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sealing member is located at or adjacent with a base of the male connection fingers. 8. The filter of claim 7 , wherein the at least one sealing member is an O-ring. 9. The filter of claim 1 , wherein the male connection fingers extending from at least one of the gases inlet port and/or gases outlet port is inside a cylindrical wall of the gases inlet port and/or gases outlet port. 10. A filter for use in a high flow respiratory support system for delivering humidified gas to a user or a patient, the filter comprising: a housing comprising a gases inlet port and a gases outlet port, wherein the gases inlet port and/or gases outlet port comprise an adapter insert, the adapter insert comprising at least one pair of male connection fingers extending from at least one of the gases inlet port and the gases outlet port, wherein the at least one pair of male connection fingers are adapted for connection with a connector provided at a terminal end of a conduit. 11. The filter of claim 10 , wherein the adapter insert comprises one or more retention members, wherein each of the one or more retention members is engageable with a portion of an interior surface of the housing. 12. The filter of claim 11 , wherein each of the one or more retention members is configured to engage with the interior surface of the housing to retain the adapter insert within a port into which an adapter is inserted. 13. The filter of claim 12 , wherein each of the one or more retention members is configured to resist axial displacement of the adapter in a direction toward an exterior end of the port. 14. The filter of claim 11 , wherein each of the one or more retention members comprise at least a hook or other surface projection to engage the interior surface of the housing. 15. The filter of claim 11 , wherein the adapter insert comprises a first end and a second end, wherein the male connection fingers extend from the first end and each of the one or more retention members extend from the second end, and wherein a shank portion connects the first end with the second end. 16. The filter of claim 15 , wherein the shank portion comprises a gas flow path for a passage of gases therethrough between each of the first end and the second end. 17. The filter of claim 15 , wherein the adapter insert comprises at least one sealing member provided about the shank portion. 18. The filter of claim 15 , wherein the adapter insert comprises at least one sealing member provided substantially at or adjacent with a first end of the adapter insert. 19. The filter of claim 18 , wherein the at least one sealing member is an O-ring. 20. The filter of claim 18 , wherein the at least one sealing member is located at or adjacent with a base of the male connection fingers. 21. The filter of claim 20 , wherein the at least one sealing member is an O-ring. 22. The filter of claim 15 , wherein the first end of the adapter insert comprises a radially extensive ledge or lip. 23. The filter of claim 18 , wherein the at least one sealing member provides for at least one sealing surface for sealing with a surface of the connector provided at the terminal end of the conduit when the surface of the connector is brought to bear upon the at least one sealing surface. 24. The filter of claim 23 , wherein the at least one sealing member is an O-ring. 25. The filter of claim 15 , wherein one or more splines or ribs are located about the shank portion, wherein the one or more splines or ribs extend longitudinally along the shank portion. 26. The filter of claim 16 , wherein the gas flow path transitions from a larger internal diameter at the second end of the adapter insert to a smaller internal diameter at the first end of the adapter insert. 27. The filter of claim 26 , wherein the gas flow path transitions from the larger internal diameter to the smaller internal diameter in a graduated or linear progression from the second end of the adapter insert to the first end of the adapter insert. 28.
