Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and apparatus for automatically reconfiguring network parameters are described. Some embodiments identify communication channels that may interfere with higher priority equipment and deactivate communication channels that may cause harmful interference. Some APs are switched to 2.4 GHz communication channels. In some embodiments, AP operating parameters, such as transmission power are adjusted to reduce interference for higher priority receivers.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: detecting radar interference at an access point (AP) of a plurality of APs of a wireless network in a first channel of a first wireless band; blacklisting the first channel for the AP; checking if another channel is available for the AP in the first wireless band; in response to no channel being available for the AP in the first wireless band, determining if a reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed; and in response to determining that reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed, reconfiguring the wireless network based on signal strengths between the plurality of APs of the wireless network, the reconfiguring including inhibiting transmission by one or more APs of the plurality of APs having more than a threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reconfiguring the wireless network includes switching channels of the plurality of APs to operate on a second wireless band. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first wireless band is a 5 GHz frequency band and the second wireless band is a 2.4 GHz frequency band. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving service related information from the plurality of APs; and sending configuration information to the plurality of APs. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs comprises shutting down a transmitter of the one or more APs of the plurality of APs. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs comprises adjusting a transmission power of the one or more APs of the plurality of APs. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: adjusting a power level of at least one remaining AP of the plurality APs after inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs having more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs comprises iteratively inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs having more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs until no AP of the plurality of APs has more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: monitoring one or more wireless network performance parameters between each iterative inhibiting of transmission; comparing the one or more wireless network performance parameters of a first iteration to one or more wireless network performance parameters of a subsequent iteration; and resuming transmission of a previously inhibited AP in response to the comparison. 10. A system comprising: hardware processing circuitry; one or more hardware memories storing instructions that when executed configure the hardware processing circuitry to perform operations comprising: detecting radar interference at an access point (AP) of a plurality of APs of a wireless network in a first channel of a first wireless band; blacklisting the first channel for the AP; checking if another channel is available for the AP in the first wireless band; in response to no channel being available for the AP in the first wireless band, determining if a reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed; and in response to determining that reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed, reconfiguring the wireless network based on signal strengths between the plurality of APs of the wireless network, the reconfiguring including inhibiting transmission by one or more APs of the plurality of APs having more than a threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the reconfiguring the wireless network includes switching channels of the plurality of APs to operate on a second wireless band. 12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first wireless band is a 5 GHz frequency band and the second wireless band is a 2.4 GHz frequency band. 13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the instructions configure the hardware processing circuitry to further perform operations comprising: receiving service related information from the plurality of APs; and sending configuration information to the plurality of APs. 14. The system of claim 10 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs comprises shutting down a transmitter of the one or more APs of the plurality of APs. 15. The system of claim 10 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs comprises adjusting a transmission power of the one or more APs of the plurality of APs. 16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the instructions configure the hardware processing circuitry to further perform operations comprising: adjusting a power level of at least one remaining AP of the plurality APs after inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs of the plurality of APs having more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 17. The system of claim 10 , wherein inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs comprises iteratively inhibiting transmission by the one or more APs having more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs until no AP of the plurality of APs has more than the threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the instructions configure the hardware processing circuitry to further perform operations comprising: monitoring one or more wireless network performance parameters between each iterative inhibiting of transmission; comparing the one or more wireless network performance parameters of a first iteration to one or more wireless network performance parameters of a subsequent iteration; and resuming transmission of a previously inhibited AP in response to the comparison. 19. Non-transitory computer readable storage media comprising instructions that when executed configure hardware processing circuitry to perform operations comprising: detecting radar interference at an access point (AP) of a plurality of APs of a wireless network in a first channel of a first wireless band; blacklisting the first channel for the AP; checking if another channel is available for the AP in the first wireless band; in response to no channel being available for the AP in the first wireless band, determining if a reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed; and in response to determining that reconfiguration of the wireless network should be performed, reconfiguring the wireless network based on signal strengths between the plurality of APs of the wireless network, the reconfiguring including inhibiting transmission by one or more APs of the plurality of APs having more than a threshold number of strong neighbor APs. 20. The non-transitory computer readable storage media of claim 19 , wherein the reconfiguring the wireless network includes switching channels of the plurality of APs to operate on a second wireless band, and wherein the first wireless band is a 5 GHz frequency band and the second wireless band is a 2.4 GHz frequency band.
