Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods of treating or inhibiting inflammation in a subject include administering an anti-inflammatory protein to the subject. In some embodiments, the protein has at least 80% sequence identity to the amino acid sequence set forth as SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 11, or fragments thereof. Isolated polypeptides, nucleic acids, and recombinant vectors including a nucleic acid encoding the anti-inflammatory protein (such as a nucleic acid encoding a protein with at least 80% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 11, or fragments thereof) operably linked to a heterologous promoter are also disclosed.

First claim

We claim: 1. A method of treating inflammatory bowel disease, Hirschsprung's associated enterocolitis, irritable bowel syndrome, or necrotizing enterocolitis in a subject, comprising administering to the subject a polypeptide comprising: an amino acid sequence comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 11; or an amino acid sequence comprising amino acids 1-188 of SEQ ID NO: 11, amino acids 21-188 of SEQ ID NO: 11, or amino acids 189-330 of SEQ ID NO: 11. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide consists of: the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 11; or the amino acid sequence of amino acids 1-188 of SEQ ID NO: 11, amino acids 21-188 of SEQ ID NO: 11, or amino acids 189-330 of SEQ ID NO: 11. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the polypeptide administered to the subject is about 1 mg to about 5 g. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide is administered to the subject daily, weekly, or monthly. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering one or more of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), corticosteroid, or disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) to the subject. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inflammatory bowel disease is ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.
