Official abstract text for this publication.
A client-side spreadsheet with client-side worksheets is constructed. The constructing includes structuring worksheet relationships between the client-side worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet in accordance with data object relationships of data objects of a server-side data structure. A determination is made that an operation has been selected for performing on data of at least one of the client-side worksheets. User input operative to initiate performance of the at least one of the client-side worksheets is detected. Implementation of the operation is initiated in accordance with the worksheet relationships and the data object relationships.

We claim: 1. A non-transitory processor-readable medium including instructions executable by one or more processors, and when executed operable for: obtaining relationship keys from a catalog that is part of a database that includes a server-side data structure, wherein the relationship keys describe data object relationships of data objects of the server-side data structure; constructing a client-side spreadsheet with client-side worksheets, wherein the constructing includes structuring worksheet relationships between the client-side worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet in accordance with data object relationships of data objects, as described by the relationship keys, of the server-side data structure; determining that an operation has been selected for performing on data of at least one of the client-side worksheets; detecting user input operative to initiate performance of the at least one of the client-side worksheets; and initiating implementation of the operation in accordance with the worksheet relationships and the data object relationships. 2. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising: constructing the client-side spreadsheet with the client-side worksheets based on automatically determined characteristics of an organization of a data structure of the server-side data structure. 3. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising: automatically constructing a structured workbook and generating initial worksheets of the client-side worksheets, wherein the client-side spreadsheet includes the structured workbook. 4. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 3 , further comprising: providing code in a server-interface add-in; and performing the automatically constructing of the structured workbook and the generating of the initial worksheets via the code in the server-interface add-in. 5. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 4 , further comprising: relating the client-side worksheets to each other in a manner that models at least a subset of a server-side hierarchy associated with the server-side data structure. 6. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 5 , further comprising: referencing the server-side hierarchy via a server-side interface add in; and preventing inappropriate relationships between the client-side worksheets by the referencing of the server-side hierarchy. 7. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 4 , further comprising: providing user interface functionality of the client-side spreadsheet via the server-interface add in. 8. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 7 , further comprising: providing one or more menus, via the server-interface add-in, for selecting parent worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet. 9. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising: providing structure of the client-side worksheets by the structuring of the worksheet relationships. 10. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 9 , further comprising: matching the structure of the client-side worksheets with the at least subset of the server-side hierarchy. 11. A method for providing operations in accordance with worksheet relationships and data object relationships, the method comprising: obtaining relationship keys from a catalog that is part of a database that includes a server-side data structure, wherein the relationship keys describe data object relationships of data objects of the server-side data structure; constructing a client-side spreadsheet with client-side worksheets, wherein the constructing includes structuring worksheet relationships between the client-side worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet in accordance with data object relationships of data objects, as described by the relationship keys, of the server-side data structure; determining that an operation has been selected for performing on data of at least one of the client-side worksheets; detecting user input operative to initiate performance of the at least one of the client-side worksheets; and initiating implementation of the operation in accordance with the worksheet relationships and the data object relationships. 12. The method of claim 11 , the method further comprising: constructing the client-side spreadsheet with the client-side worksheets based on automatically determined characteristics of an organization of a data structure of the server-side data structure. 13. The method of claim 11 , the method further comprising: automatically constructing a structured workbook and generating initial worksheets of the client-side worksheets, wherein the client-side spreadsheet includes the structured workbook. 14. The method of claim 13 , the method further comprising: providing code in a server-interface add-in; and performing the automatically constructing of the structured workbook and the generating of the initial worksheets via the code in the server-interface add-in. 15. The method of claim 14 , the method further comprising: relating the client-side worksheets to each other in a manner that models at least a subset of a server-side hierarchy associated with the server-side data structure. 16. The method of claim 15 , the method further comprising: referencing the server-side hierarchy via a server-side interface add in; and preventing inappropriate relationships between the client-side worksheets by the referencing of the server-side hierarchy. 17. The method of claim 14 , the method further comprising: providing user interface functionality of the client-side spreadsheet via the server-interface add in. 18. The method of claim 17 , the method further comprising: providing one or more menus, via the server-interface add-in, for selecting parent worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet. 19. The method of claim 11 , the method further comprising: providing structure of the client-side worksheets by the structuring of the worksheet relationships. 20. An apparatus for providing operations in accordance with worksheet relationships and data object relationships, the apparatus comprising: one or more processors; and logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution by the one or more processors and when executed operable for: obtaining relationship keys from a catalog that is part of a database that includes a server-side data structure, wherein the relationship keys describe data object relationships of data objects of the server-side data structure; constructing a client-side spreadsheet with client-side worksheets, wherein the constructing includes structuring worksheet relationships between the client-side worksheets of the client-side spreadsheet in accordance with data object relationships of data objects, as described by the relationship keys, of the server-side data structure; determining that an operation has been selected for performing on data of at least one of the client-side worksheets; detecting user input operative to initiate performance of the at least one of the client-side worksheets; and initiating implementation of the operation in accordance with the worksheet relationships and the data object relationships.
