An HVAC system is provided. Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to an HVAC system in which a first controller is configured to provide a communicating protocol to a first HVAC component and a second controller is configured to receive a communicating protocol from the first controller and output an on/off protocol to a second HVAC component.

The invention claimed is: 1. An HVAC system, comprising: a first controller configured to provide a first signal using a first communicating protocol to a first controllable HVAC component; and a second controller configured to receive the first signal from the first controller and output a second signal, separate from the first signal, using a second communicating protocol to a second controllable HVAC component based on the first signal; wherein the first controllable HVAC component is controllable only by the first signal using the first communicating protocol and the second controllable HVAC component is controllable only by the second signal using the second communicating protocol, wherein the first communicating protocol and the second communicating protocol are different protocols, and wherein a translation feature of the second controller facilitates communication between the different protocols; and wherein the first controller and the first controllable HVAC component are part of either an indoor unit or an outdoor unit of the HVAC system, and wherein the second controller and the second controllable HVAC component are part of the other of the indoor unit or the outdoor unit, the indoor and outdoor units configured to circulate refrigerant therebetween. 2. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the first controllable HVAC component is an electronic expansion valve. 3. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the first controller is a communicating thermostat. 4. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the second controllable HVAC component is a device configured to generate airflow. 5. The HVAC system of claim 4 , wherein the second controllable HVAC component comprises an air handler. 6. The HVAC system of claim 5 , wherein the air handler is a two-stage air handler configured to operate at a first speed and a second, different speed. 7. The HVAC system of claim 1 , wherein the second controller is configured to receive operating power from the second controllable HVAC component. 8. The HVAC system of claim 1 , comprising a controllable HVAC component configured to operate using a refrigerant that comprises at least 50%, in terms of weight, R32 refrigerant. 9. The HVAC system of claim 8 , wherein the refrigerant at least partially comprises a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) refrigerant. 10. An HVAC system, comprising: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit; a refrigerant circuit configured to circulate refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units; a first controller configured to send a first signal using a first communicating protocol; and a second controller configured to receive the first signal from the first controller and output a second signal, separate from the first signal, using a second communicating protocol to a first controllable HVAC component and output a third signal, separate from the first signal and the second signal, using a third communicating protocol to a second controllable HVAC component based on the first signal; wherein the first controllable HVAC component is controllable only by the second signal using the second communicating protocol and the second controllable HVAC component is controllable only by the third signal using the third communicating protocol, wherein the second communicating protocol and the third communicating protocol are different protocols, and wherein a translation feature facilitates communication between the different protocols.
