Official abstract text for this publication.
Implementation of a guided rules editor comprises displaying a view of a user interface (UI) of the guided rules editor to a user on the client device. Metadata of an organization to which the user belongs is fetched and used to identify which data of the organization is eligible for rule creation and attributes of the metadata are used to determine a layout of the one or more UI selection elements. One or more UI selection elements are rendered in one or more positions in the view on a display screen according to the layout and at least a portion of the one or more UI selection elements are populated with the data of the organization. Responsive to receiving user input of the one or more UI selection elements, an organization-specific rule is generated and saved to a data repository for execution by a rules engine after rule compilation.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: identifying, by an application programming interface (API) that is communicatively coupled with a rules engine, a plurality of rules, wherein respective rules of the plurality of rules are associated with at least one rule characteristic of a plurality of rule characteristics; identifying, by the API, a plurality of characteristics of a process request received from a customer, wherein the process request relates to a process that is to be executed based on one or more rules of the plurality of rules, wherein the plurality of characteristics comprises a first characteristic related to an entity type of the customer, a second characteristic related to a geographic location of the process request, a third characteristic related to a time period in which the process is to be executed, and a fourth characteristic related to a business domain applicable to the process request; identifying, by the API based on correlation of the plurality of characteristics of the process request with the plurality of rule characteristics, a subset of the plurality of rules less than the plurality of rules, wherein the subset contains only rules of the plurality of rules determined to be relevant to the process request; providing, by the API, one or more indications of rules in the subset of the plurality of rules to the rules engine; and executing, by the rules engine, the process based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request relates to a process that is to be executed by the rules engine based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein respective rule characteristics of the plurality of rule characteristics are implemented as metadata of a folder in which the rule is placed. 4. One or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media that provides instructions that, if executed by one or more processors, are configurable to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: identifying, by an application programming interface (API) that is communicatively coupled with a rules engine, a plurality of rules, wherein respective rules of the plurality of rules are associated with at least one rule characteristic of a plurality of rule characteristics; identifying, by the API, a plurality of characteristics of a process request received from a customer, wherein the process request relates to a process that is to be executed based on one or more rules of the plurality of rules, wherein the plurality of characteristics comprises a first characteristic related to an entity type of the customer, a second characteristic related to a geographic location of the process request, a third characteristic related to a time period in which the process is to be executed, and a fourth characteristic related to a business domain applicable to the process request; identifying, by the API based on correlation of the plurality of characteristics of the process request with the plurality of rule characteristics, a subset of the plurality of rules less than the plurality of rules, wherein the subset contains only rules of the plurality of rules determined to be relevant to the process request; providing, by the API, one or more indications of rules in the subset of the plurality of rules to the rules engine; and executing, by the rules engine, the process based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 5. The one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media of claim 4 , wherein the request relates to a process that is to be executed by the rules engine based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 6. The one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media of claim 4 , wherein respective rule characteristics of the plurality of rule characteristics are implemented as metadata of a folder in which the rule is placed. 7. An apparatus comprising: one or more processors; and one or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media that provides instructions that, if executed by the one or more processors, are configurable to cause the one or more processors to: identify, by an application programming interface (API) that is communicatively coupled with a rules engine, a plurality of rules, wherein respective rules of the plurality of rules are associated with at least one rule characteristic of a plurality of rule characteristics; identify, by the API, a plurality of characteristics of a process request received from a customer, wherein the process request relates to a process that is to be executed based on one or more rules of the plurality of rules, wherein the plurality of characteristics comprises a first characteristic related to an entity type of the customer, a second characteristic related to a geographic location of the process request, a third characteristic related to a time period in which the process is to be executed, and a fourth characteristic related to a business domain applicable to the process request; identify, by the API based on correlation of the plurality of characteristics of the process request with the plurality of rule characteristics, a subset of the plurality of rules less than the plurality of rules, wherein the subset contains only rules of the plurality of rules determined to be relevant to the process request; provide, by the API, one or more indications of rules in the subset of the plurality of rules to the rules engine; and execute, by the rules engine, the process based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the request relates to a process that is to be executed by the rules engine based on the subset of the plurality of rules. 9. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein respective rule characteristics of the plurality of rule characteristics are implemented as metadata of a folder in which the rule is placed.
