Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods, systems, and media for rewinding media content based on detected audio events are provided. In some embodiments, a method for providing media guidance is provided, the method comprising: causing media content to be presented; receiving, using an audio input device, audio data that includes ambient sounds in an environment in which the media content is being presented; receiving a user command to rewind the media content; detecting that a portion of the audio data corresponds to an audio event that occurred during the presentation of the media content in response to receiving the user command to rewind the media content; determining a playback position in the media content based on the audio event; and causing the media content to be presented from the determined playback position.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method for providing media guidance, the method comprising: determining a plurality of ambient noise levels in received audio data; determining that the received audio data corresponds to an audio event that occurred during presentation of a media content item at least by comparing each of the plurality of ambient noise levels in the received audio data with a threshold noise level; generating an indication that associates a portion of the media content item with the audio event; and determining, based on the audio event, whether to present a user of a media device that is presenting the media content item with a prompt to rewind to a playback position corresponding to the portion of the media content item associated with the audio event. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, based on an audio event type detected from the received audio data, the playback position. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user command to rewind the media content item. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the user command is a voice command received by an audio input device of the media device. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting that the media content item is being presented, wherein the media content item includes audio. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, using an audio input device associated with the media device, the received audio data corresponding to the audio event that occurred during presentation of the media content item. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user command to rewind the media content item, wherein the user of the media device is presented with the prompt to rewind to the playback position corresponding to the portion of the media content item associated with the audio event in response to receiving the user command to rewind the media content item. 8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising causing the media content item to be presented from the playback position. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication is generated by placing one or more identifiers within a media content file corresponding to the media content item that identify the audio event. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the playback position corresponds to a position in the media content item that is a given time period prior to the indication that associates a portion of the media content item with the audio event. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the received audio data corresponds to the audio event that occurred during the presentation of the media content item includes comparing an audio fingerprint of a portion of the received audio data with a plurality of audio fingerprints representing one or more audio events. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising calculating a plurality of indications of one or more relative ambient noise levels in the received audio data based on the portion of the received audio data, wherein the audio fingerprint includes the plurality of indications of the one or more relative ambient noise levels. 13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising comparing the audio fingerprint of the portion of the received audio data with an audio fingerprint of the media content item. 14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising placing one or more identifiers within a media content file corresponding to the media content item that identifies the audio event based on the comparison of the audio fingerprint of the portion of the received audio data with the audio fingerprint of the media content item. 15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user command to rewind the media content item by identifying a voice input from the received audio data that corresponds to a request to rewind the media content item. 16. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a user command to rewind the media content item by detecting that the user command has been received from a remote control. 17. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the plurality of ambient noise levels in the received audio data comprises determining a plurality of absolute ambient noise levels in the received audio data. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein determining that the received audio data corresponds to the audio event that occurred during the presentation of the media content item includes comparing each of the plurality of absolute ambient noise levels with the threshold noise level. 19. A system for providing media guidance, the system comprising: a hardware processor that: determining a plurality of ambient noise levels in received audio data; determines that the received audio data corresponds to an audio event that occurred during presentation of a media content item at least by comparing each of the plurality of ambient noise levels in the received audio data with a threshold noise level; generates an indication that associates a portion of the media content item with the audio event; and determines, based on the audio event, whether to present a user of a media device that is presenting the media content item with a prompt to rewind to a playback position corresponding to the portion of the media content item associated with the audio event. 20. A non-transitory computer-readable medium container computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a hardware processor, cause the processor to: determine a plurality of ambient noise levels in received audio data; determine that the received audio data corresponds to an audio event that occurred during presentation of a media content item at least by comparing each of the plurality of ambient noise levels in the received audio data with a threshold noise level; generate an indication that associates a portion of the media content item with the audio event; and determine, based on the audio event, whether to present a user of a media device that is presenting the media content item with a prompt to rewind to a playback position corresponding to the portion of the media content item associated with the audio event.
