Official abstract text for this publication.
Reaction products and methods for making and using the same are provided. The reaction products particularly may include adducts of two or more reactants. The adducts particularly can incorporate a nitrification inhibitor, such as DCD. In particular embodiments, reaction products may be formed from the reaction of formaldehyde, DCD, urea, and an ammonia source. The adducts may be included in agricultural products, including fertilizer compositions and nitrification inhibitor systems. Fertilizer compositions including the adducts can be beneficial for reducing leaching of nitrification inhibitors applied to soil.

What is claimed is: 1. A fertilizer composition comprising (a) an adduct of formaldehyde, urea, and a nitrification inhibitor, wherein the nitrification inhibitor is incorporated into the adduct, and (b) a nitrogen source, wherein the nitrogen source is urea, ammonia, ammonium nitrate, or a combination thereof. 2. The fertilizer composition of claim 1 , wherein the nitrification inhibitor is dicyandiamide (DCD). 3. The fertilizer composition of claim 1 , wherein the nitrogen source is a solid, a liquid, or a mixture of a solid nitrogen source and a liquid nitrogen source. 4. The fertilizer composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a fertilizer nutrient. 5. The fertilizer composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a pesticide, herbicide, and/or fungicide. 6. A method of making a fertilizer composition comprising: reacting formaldehyde, urea, and a nitrification inhibitor to produce a reaction product including at least one adduct of formaldehyde, urea, and the nitrification inhibitor, wherein the nitrification inhibitor is incorporated into the adduct; and combining the reaction product with a nitrogen source to produce a fertilizer, wherein the nitrogen source is urea, ammonia, ammonium nitrate, or a combination thereof. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the nitrogen source is a solid, a liquid, or a mixture of a solid nitrogen source and a liquid nitrogen source. 8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the reaction product has a pH ranging from about 7 to about 11.
