Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An attachment system includes a lateral member and an attachment interface. The attachment interface is configured to selectively engage with an attachment to facilitate releasably coupling the attachment to a vehicle. The attachment interface includes a first connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate a first end of the lateral member and a second connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate an opposing second end of the lateral member. Each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate includes (i) an upper interface positioned at an upper end thereof and (ii) a lower interface positioned at a lower end thereof. The upper interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a first aperture. The lower interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a second aperture.

The invention claimed is: 1. An attachment assembly for a vehicle, the attachment assembly comprising: a lateral member; and an attachment interface configured to selectively engage with an attachment to facilitate releasably coupling the attachment to the vehicle, the attachment interface including: a first connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate a first end of the lateral member; and a second connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate an opposing second end of the lateral member; wherein each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate includes (i) an upper interface positioned at an upper end thereof and (ii) a lower interface positioned at a lower end thereof; wherein the upper interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a first aperture; wherein the lower interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a second aperture; and wherein the first connecting plate is configured to engage with a first interface of the attachment and the second connecting plate is configured to engage with a second interface of the attachment such that the first aperture and the second aperture of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate align with corresponding apertures of the first interface and the second interface to removably receive a plurality of fasteners to selectively couple the attachment to the attachment interface. 2. The attachment assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate extend perpendicular to the lateral member. 3. The attachment assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate extend at an outward angle relative to the lateral member and away from one another. 4. The attachment assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a third connecting plate coupled to the lateral member between the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate. 5. The attachment assembly of claim 4 , further comprising: a first attachment that selectively engages with the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate; and a second attachment that selectively engages with the first connecting plate and the third connecting plate. 6. The attachment assembly of claim 1 , wherein the upper interface includes a first portion that extends forward from the upper end and the lower interface includes a second portion that extends forward from the lower end. 7. The attachment assembly of claim 6 , wherein the first portion of the upper interface and the second portion of the lower interface have a tapered or sloped profile. 8. An attachment assembly for a vehicle, the attachment assembly comprising: an attachment including: a first arm having a first arm end and an opposing second arm end; a second arm having a third arm end and an opposing fourth arm end; and a cross-member extending between the first arm and the second arm; a lateral member; and an attachment interface configured to selectively engage with the attachment to facilitate releasably coupling the attachment to the vehicle, the attachment interface including: a first connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate a first end of the lateral member; and a second connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate an opposing second end of the lateral member; wherein: each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate includes (i) an upper interface positioned at an upper end thereof and (ii) a lower interface positioned at a lower end thereof; the upper interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a first aperture; the lower interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a second aperture; the upper interface includes a first portion that extends forward from the upper end and the lower interface includes a second portion that extends forward from the lower end; each of the first arm end of the first arm and the third arm end of the second arm includes (i) a first support coupled to and extending laterally from an upper portion thereof and (ii) a second support coupled to and extending laterally from a lower portion thereof; the first support defines (i) a first channel that selectively receives the first portion of the upper interface and (ii) a third aperture that selectively aligns with the first aperture to receive a first pin; and the second support defines (i) a second channel that selectively receives the second portion of the lower interface and (ii) a fourth aperture that selectively aligns with the second aperture to receive a second pin. 9. The attachment assembly of claim 8 , wherein the upper interface and the lower interface have a tapered or sloped profile, and wherein the first support and the second support are angled to correspond with the tapered or sloped profile. 10. The attachment assembly of claim 8 , wherein the opposing second arm end of the first arm and the opposing fourth arm end of the second arm are curved or have hooks such that the first arm and the second arm are fork arms. 11. The attachment assembly of claim 8 , wherein the attachment includes a container, and wherein the opposing second arm end of the first arm and the opposing fourth arm end of the second arm are coupled to the container. 12. The attachment assembly of claim 8 , wherein the cross-member has a L-shaped structure, wherein the attachment interface includes a guide positioned along the lateral member between the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate, and wherein the cross-member is configured to engage with a profile of the guide when the attachment engages with the attachment interface. 13. The attachment assembly of claim 8 , wherein a rear edge of each of the first arm end of the first arm and the third arm end of the second arm includes (i) a first guide flange extending rearward from the rear edge at the upper portion, (ii) a second guide flange extending rearward from the rear edge at the lower portion, and (iii) a notch positioned between the first guide flange and the second guide flange that selectively receives at least a portion of the lateral member, and wherein the first guide flange and the second guide flange are angled toward a center of the attachment. 14. The attachment assembly of claim 1 , wherein the upper interface includes a hook and the lower interface includes a bumper. 15. An attachment assembly for a vehicle, the attachment assembly comprising: a lateral member; an attachment interface including: a first connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate a first end of the lateral member; and a second connecting plate coupled to the lateral member proximate an opposing second end of the lateral member; wherein each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate includes (i) an upper interface positioned at an upper end thereof and (ii) a lower interface positioned at a lower end thereof, wherein the upper interface includes a hook and the lower interface includes a bumper, wherein the upper interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a first aperture, and wherein the lower interface of each of the first connecting plate and the second connecting plate defines a second aperture; and an attachment including: a first arm having a first arm end and an opposing second arm end; a second arm having a third arm end and an opposing fourth arm end; a cross-member extending between the
