What is claimed is: 1. An optical sensor system, comprising: a light source; a concentrator component configured to direct light from the light source toward a measurement target; a collection component configured to receive light reflected or transmitted from the measurement target, wherein the light source is separate from the collection component, and wherein the concentrator component is closer to the light source than the collection component; a barrier, wherein the collection component includes an array of components and is on a first side of the barrier, and wherein the concentrator component is on a second side of the barrier; and a sensor. 2. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising: a filter between the collection component and the sensor. 3. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the concentrator component is attached to the light source. 4. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the array of components includes one or more of: an array of compound parabolic concentrators (CPCs), an array of optical tapers, or an array of light pipes. 5. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the concentrator component includes a compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). 6. The optical sensor system of claim 5 , wherein the CPC is a solid compound parabolic concentrator with an external coating. 7. The optical sensor system of claim 5 , wherein the CPC is a hollow compound parabolic concentrator with an internal coating, and wherein the internal coating comprises one or more of a metal coating or a dielectric coating. 8. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the barrier is further between the light source and the sensor. 9. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising: a substrate, wherein the light source is between the substrate and the concentrator component, and wherein the sensor is between the substrate and the collection component. 10. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the light source is on the second side of the barrier. 11. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is on the first side of the barrier. 12. The optical sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the light source is a phosphor light emitting diode (LED) or a modulated LED. 13. A system, comprising: a light source; a concentrator component; a collection component that includes an array of compound parabolic concentrators (CPCs), wherein the light source is separate from the array of CPCs, and wherein the concentrator component is closer to the light source than the array of CPCs; and a barrier, wherein the collection component is on a first side of the barrier, and wherein the concentrator component is on a second side of the barrier. 14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the array of CPCs is a two-dimensional array of CPCs. 15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the concentrator component is configured to direct light from the light source toward a measurement target. 16. A user device, comprising: an optical sensor system, comprising: a light source; a concentrator component configured to direct light from the light source toward a measurement target; a collection component configured to receive light reflected or transmitted from the measurement target, wherein the light source is separate from the collection component, and wherein the concentrator component is closer to the light source than the collection component; and a barrier, wherein the collection component includes an array of components and is on a first side of the barrier, and wherein the concentrator component is on a second side of the barrier. 17. The user device of claim 16 , wherein the concentrator component is attached to the light source. 18. The user device of claim 16 , wherein the array of components includes a two-dimensional array of compound parabolic concentrators (CPCs). 19. The user device of claim 16 , wherein the light source is on the second side of the barrier. 20. The user device of claim 16 , wherein the optical sensor system further comprises: a sensor; and a filter between the sensor and the collection component.
