Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system described herein may determine that a first measure of likelihood of demand for a particular service from a first set of edge computing devices exceeds a first threshold, and may instruct the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service. The system may subsequently determine that a second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from a second set of edge computing devices exceeds a second threshold, the second set of edge computing devices being a subset of the first set of edge computing devices, and may initiate a service state synchronization operation with respect to the second set of edge computing devices. The system may select a particular edge computing device, of the second set of edge computing devices, to provide the particular service to a User Equipment (“UE”).

What is claimed is: 1. A device, comprising: one or more processors configured to: determine that a first measure of likelihood of demand for a particular service from a first set of edge computing devices exceeds a first threshold; instruct the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service, based on determining that the first measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the first set of edge computing devices exceeds the first threshold; determine that a second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from a second set of edge computing devices exceeds a second threshold, the second set of edge computing devices being a subset of the first set of edge computing devices; initiate a service state synchronization operation with respect to the second set of edge computing devices based on determining that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold; and select a particular edge computing device, of the second set of edge computing devices, to provide the particular service to a particular User Equipment (“UE”), wherein the particular edge computing device provides the service to the particular UE in accordance with a service state that is based on the service state synchronization operation. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the particular edge computing device is a first edge computing device, wherein the particular UE receives the particular service from a second edge computing device prior to the selection of the first edge computing device. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the service state synchronization operation includes the UE outputting service state information to each edge computing device of the second set of edge computing devices. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein instructing the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service is performed prior to determining that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold. 5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the service state synchronization operation is not performed with respect to the second set of edge computing devices until the determination that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold. 6. The device of claim 1 , wherein based on receiving the instruction to provision resources to provide the particular service, the first set of edge computing devices perform at least one of: allocate a set of hardware resources to provide the service, or instantiate one or more containers or applications to provide the service. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to: after selecting the particular edge computing device to provide the particular service to the particular UE, cease the service state synchronization operation with respect to one or more other edge computing devices of the second set of edge computing devices. 8. A non-transitory computer-readable medium, storing a plurality of processor-executable instructions to: determine that a first measure of likelihood of demand for a particular service from a first set of edge computing devices exceeds a first threshold; instruct the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service, based on determining that the first measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the first set of edge computing devices exceeds the first threshold; determine that a second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from a second set of edge computing devices exceeds a second threshold, the second set of edge computing devices being a subset of the first set of edge computing devices; initiate a service state synchronization operation with respect to the second set of edge computing devices based on determining that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold; and select a particular edge computing device, of the second set of edge computing devices, to provide the particular service to a particular User Equipment (“UE”), wherein the particular edge computing device provides the service to the particular UE in accordance with a service state that is based on the service state synchronization operation. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the particular edge computing device is a first edge computing device, wherein the particular UE receives the particular service from a second edge computing device prior to the selection of the first edge computing device. 10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the service state synchronization operation includes the UE outputting service state information to each edge computing device of the second set of edge computing devices. 11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein instructing the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service is performed prior to determining that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the service state synchronization operation is not performed with respect to the second set of edge computing devices until the determination that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices exceeds the second threshold. 13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein based on receiving the instruction to provision resources to provide the particular service, the first set of edge computing devices perform at least one of: allocate a set of hardware resources to provide the service, or instantiate one or more containers or applications to provide the service. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of processor-executable instructions further include processor-executable instructions to: after selecting the particular edge computing device to provide the particular service to the particular UE, cease the service state synchronization operation with respect to one or more other edge computing devices of the second set of edge computing devices. 15. A method, comprising: determining that a first measure of likelihood of demand for a particular service from a first set of edge computing devices exceeds a first threshold; instructing the first set of edge computing devices to provision resources to provide the particular service, based on determining that the first measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the first set of edge computing devices exceeds the first threshold; determining that a second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from a second set of edge computing devices exceeds a second threshold, the second set of edge computing devices being a subset of the first set of edge computing devices; initiating a service state synchronization operation with respect to the second set of edge computing devices based on determining that the second measure of likelihood of demand for the particular service from the second set of edge computing devices excee
