Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A tube sheet for a thermal transfer device can include a body having a plurality of apertures that traverse therethrough, where the plurality of apertures are configured to receive a plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device. The tube sheet can also include an outer perimeter defining the body, where the outer perimeter has at least one first recess feature disposed therein. The at least one first recess feature can have a first shape and a first size, where the first shape is any shape aside from a semi-circle.

That which is claimed is: 1. A planar tube sheet for a thermal transfer device, wherein the planar tube sheet comprises: a body having a body center point and a uniform thickness and a plurality of apertures that traverse therethrough, wherein each of the plurality of apertures has a length that equals the thickness of the body and is configured to receive a plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device; and an outer perimeter defining the body, wherein the outer perimeter has a plurality of first recess features disposed therein, wherein the plurality of first recess features has a first shape wherein each first shape is an arc, wherein the body and the outer perimeter are planar with respect to each other, wherein the outer perimeter, not considering recess features, has a circular shape having a body radius measured from the body center point, and wherein the arc is defined by a recess radius taken from a recess center point located at a distance from the body center point greater than the body radius. 2. The tube sheet of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first recess features are clustered along a first portion of the outer perimeter and a remaining portion of the outer perimeter is free of recess features. 3. The tube sheet of claim 1 , wherein the outer perimeter further comprises at least one second recess feature having a second shape that is different from the first shape. 4. The tube sheet of claim 3 , wherein the second shape comprises an arc having a second radius that is larger than the first radius. 5. The tube sheet of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of first recess features and the at least one second recess feature are clustered along a first portion of the outer perimeter and a remaining portion of the outer perimeter is free of recess features. 6. The tube sheet of claim 3 , wherein the second shape is defined by at least one straight edge. 7. The tube sheet of claim 1 , wherein the first recess features are positioned equidistantly along at least a portion of the outer perimeter. 8. The tube sheet of claim 1 , wherein each of the first recess features is separated from each adjacent recess feature by a distance. 9. The tube sheet of claim 1 , wherein each of the first recess features extends into the body by a distance that is less than the recess radius of the arc. 10. A tube sheet assembly for a thermal transfer device, wherein the tube sheet assembly comprises: a first tube sheet comprising: a first body having a uniform thickness and a plurality of first apertures that traverse therethrough, wherein each of the plurality of first apertures has a length that equals the thickness of the first body and is configured to receive a top end of a plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device; and a first outer perimeter defining the first body, wherein the first outer perimeter has a plurality of first recess features disposed therein, wherein the plurality of first recess features has a first shape wherein each first shape is an arc, wherein the first body and the first outer perimeter are planar with respect to each other, wherein the first outer perimeter, not considering recess features, has a circular shape, wherein the arc is defined by a radius taken from a center point located laterally beyond a boundary defined by the circular shape of the outer perimeter, wherein the plurality of first recess features are configured to have a fluid flow therethrough during operation of the thermal transfer device; and a second tube sheet comprising: a second body having a plurality of second apertures that traverse therethrough, wherein the plurality of second apertures are configured to receive a bottom end of the plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device; and a second outer perimeter defining the second body. 11. The tube sheet assembly of claim 10 , wherein the first tube sheet and the second tube sheet are substantially parallel with each other. 12. The tube sheet assembly of claim 10 , wherein the second outer perimeter of the second tube sheet lacks a recess feature. 13. A thermal transfer device comprising: at least one wall that forms a cavity; a plurality of tubes disposed within the cavity, wherein each of the plurality of tubes has a first end and a second end; a first tube sheet disposed toward a top end of the cavity, wherein the first tube sheet comprises: a first body having a uniform thickness and a plurality of first apertures that traverse therethrough, wherein each of the plurality of first apertures has a length that equals the thickness of the first body and is configured to receive a first end of a plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device; and a first outer perimeter defining the first body, wherein the first outer perimeter has a plurality of first recess features disposed therein, wherein the plurality of first recess features has a first shape wherein each first shape is an arc, wherein the first body and the first outer perimeter are planar with respect to each other, wherein the first outer perimeter, not considering recess features, has a circular shape, wherein the arc is defined by a radius taken from a center point located laterally beyond a boundary defined by the circular shape of the outer perimeter, wherein the plurality of first recess features are configured to have a fluid flow therethrough during operation of the thermal transfer device; and a second tube sheet disposed toward a bottom end of the cavity, wherein the second tube sheet comprises: a second body having a plurality of second apertures that traverse therethrough, wherein the plurality of second apertures are configured to receive a second end of the plurality of tubes of the thermal transfer device; and a second outer perimeter defining the second body. 14. The thermal transfer device of claim 13 , wherein the second outer perimeter abuts against the at least one wall. 15. The thermal transfer device of claim 13 , wherein the first outer perimeter, in portions absent the plurality of first recess features, abuts against the at least one wall. 16. The thermal transfer device of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of first recess features are configured to have a fluid flow therethrough during operation of the thermal transfer device.
