Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A tray for securing an implantable device to a carrier member includes a slot configured to retain the carrier member and a receptacle adjacent the slot. The carrier member surrounds a shaft of the implantable device. The receptacle has a first width at a proximal end of the receptacle to receive first and second arms of the implantable device in an initial state in which the first and second arms extend substantially perpendicularly from the shaft. The receptacle has a second width at a distal end of the receptacle for receiving the first and second arms of the implantable device in a collapsed state in which the first and second arms are folded against the shaft such that the carrier member can be slid over the first and second arms to retain the first and second arms. The second width is less than the first width.

What is claimed is: 1. An inserter device for deploying an implantable device, the inserter device comprising: an insertion tube configured to enclose at least a portion of the implantable device; a rod extending through a portion of the insertion tube between a distal end of the insertion tube and a proximal end of the insertion tube; and a handle coupled to the proximal end of the insertion tube, the handle comprising a slider button configured to control movement of the insertion tube, wherein the slider button is prevented from moving proximally into a rear position until the slider button has been moved distally from a neutral position into a forward position. 2. The inserter device of claim 1 , further comprising a locking mechanism configured to control release of the implantable device from the inserter device. 3. The inserter device of claim 2 , wherein the locking mechanism is configured to releasably couple a string attached to the implantable device to the inserter device. 4. The inserter device of claim 3 , wherein the inserter device is configured such that movement of the slider button proximally into the rear position causes the locking mechanism to release the string. 5. The inserter device of claim 1 , wherein the inserter device is configured such that movement of the slider button proximally into the rear position causes the insertion tube to move proximally relative to the rod. 6. The inserter device of claim 1 , wherein the inserter device is configured such that movement of the slider button distally into the forward position causes the insertion tube to move distally relative to the rod. 7. The inserter device of claim 1 , wherein a distal end of the rod is configured to abut a proximal portion of the implantable device when the at least a portion of the implantable device is enclosed in the insertion tube. 8. The inserter device of claim 1 , further comprising a cervical collar slidably coupled to the insertion tube. 9. The inserter device of claim 1 , wherein the inserter device is configured to be coupled to a packaging system for releasably coupling the implantable device to the inserter device. 10. A method of implanting an implantable device into a uterus of a patient, the method comprising: sliding a slider button of a handle of an inserter device distally from a neutral position into a forward position to cause an insertion tube coupled to the handle to enclose at least a portion of the implantable device, the slider button being prevented from moving proximally into a rear position until the slider button has been moved distally from the neutral position into the forward position; inserting the insertion tube and the implantable device into the uterus of the patient to position the implantable device in the uterus; and sliding the slider button proximally into the rear position to release the implantable device from the inserter device. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein: a string is attached to the implantable device; and a locking mechanism of the inserter device couples the string to the inserter device when the slider button is in the neutral position and when the slider button is in the forward position. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein sliding the slider button proximally into the rear position causes the locking mechanism to release the string from the inserter device. 13. The method of claim 10 , wherein sliding the slider button proximally into the rear position causes the insertion tube to move proximally relative to a rod coupled to the handle of the inserter device. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein sliding the slider button distally into the forward position causes the insertion tube to move distally relative to a rod coupled to the handle of the inserter device. 15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: prior to inserting the insertion tube and the implantable device into the uterus, sliding a cervical collar coupled to the insertion tube along the insertion tube to a position determined based on a predetermined depth of the uterus. 16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: prior to sliding the slider button distally from the neutral position into the forward position, folding a pair of arms of the implantable device towards a shaft of the implantable device. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein folding the pair of arms of the implantable device towards the shaft of the implantable device comprises causing a rod coupled to the handle of the inserter device to apply a force to the shaft of the implantable device. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein folding the pair of arms of the implantable device towards the shaft of the implantable device comprises sliding the inserter device along a packaging system releasably coupled to the inserter device. 19. The method of claim 16 , wherein sliding the slider button distally into the forward position causes the insertion tube to move distally to enclose at least a portion of the pair of arms of the implantable device. 20. The method of claim 19 , wherein sliding the slider button proximally into the rear position causes the insertion tube to move proximally to cause the pair of arms of the implantable device to be released from the insertion tube.
