Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A smoking article includes a sheet material including a fibrous layer formed of cellulosic fibres and at least 50% by weight of inorganic filler material having a particle size in range of from 0.1 microns and 50 microns, wherein the sheet material has a tensile strength of at least 900 N/m. The fibrous layer includes a binder material, such as an organic binder material. The organic binder material can be a cellulosic binder material. A coating layer may be provided on at least one side of the fibrous layer.

We claim: 1. A heat resistant sheet material comprising: a fibrous layer including, cellulosic fibers in an amount of less than 40% by weight, an inorganic filler material in an amount of at least 50% by weight, the inorganic filler material including, a plurality of spherical-shaped particles, the plurality of spherical-shaped particles having an average particle size of 0.1 μm to 50 μm, and an organic binder in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 10% by weight, the heat resistant sheet material having a weight of 70 grams per square meter to 130 grams per square meter. 2. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the inorganic filler material includes calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ), calcium sulphate (CaSO 4 ), aluminum trihydroxide without crystal bound water (Al(OH) 3 ·3H 2 O), aluminum (III) oxide (Al 2 0 3 ), or any combination thereof. 3. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of spherical-shaped particles have an average particle size of 0.1 μm to 30 μm. 4. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of spherical-shaped particles have an average particle size of 0.3 μm to 3 μm. 5. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the heat resistant sheet material includes 0.5% to 5% of the organic binder. 6. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the organic binder includes anionic starch, cationic starch, guar gum, xanthan gum, casein, polyvinyl alcohol, or any combination thereof. 7. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the fibrous layer further includes: a processing aid in an amount of 0.5% or less by weight. 8. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 7 , wherein the processing aid includes flocculants, coagulants, or both flocculants and coagulants. 9. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 8 , wherein the flocculants include polyacrylamide. 10. The heat resistant sheet material of claim 1 , wherein the heat resistant sheet material has a tensile strength of 1300 N/m to 6000 N/m. 11.
