Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A structure suitable for a portable information terminal or a wearable device is provided. In addition, an electronic device having a novel structure that can have various forms is provided. It is preferable that a buffer layer which absorbs a difference in the amount of change in form be provided between adjacent film substrates which overlap with each other. As the buffer layer, a gelled resin material, a rubber resin material, a liquid material, an air layer, or the like can be used. Furthermore, an optical film such as a polarizing film or a color filter may be used as the buffer layer. A plurality of buffer layers may be provided in an electronic device.

The invention claimed is: 1. A display device comprising: a display panel comprising a display surface to display an image and a back surface opposite to the display surface; a flexible substrate electrically connected to the display panel; a protective layer on the back surface side of the display panel; and a housing, wherein the display panel comprises a display region comprising a display element and a touch input sensor, wherein the display region comprises a first region, a second region, and a third region between the first region and the second region, wherein the third region is configured to be bent so that the first region and the second region overlap each other, wherein the protective layer and the display panel overlap each other, wherein the protective layer and the flexible substrate overlap each other, wherein the flexible substrate is folded from the display surface side of the display panel to the back surface side of the display panel, wherein a resin is between the protective layer and the flexible substrate, wherein the resin and the third region overlap each other, and wherein the resin is between the housing and the display panel. 2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the protective layer is more rigid than the display panel. 3. A display device comprising: a display panel comprising a display surface to display an image and a back surface opposite to the surface; a flexible substrate electrically connected to the display panel; a control circuit electrically connected to the display panel via the flexible substrate; a protective layer on the back surface side of the display panel; and a housing, wherein the display panel comprises a display region comprising a display element and a touch input sensor, wherein the display region comprises a first region, a second region, and a third region between the first region and the second region, wherein the third region is configured to be bent so that the first region and the second region overlap each other, wherein the protective layer and the display panel overlap each other, wherein the protective layer and the flexible substrate overlap each other, wherein the flexible substrate is folded from the display surface side of the display panel to the back surface side of the display panel, wherein a resin is between the protective layer and the flexible substrate and between the protective layer and the control circuit, wherein the resin and the third region overlap each other, and wherein the resin is between the housing and the display panel. 4. The display device according to claim 2 , wherein the protective layer is more rigid than the display panel.
