A method for handoff includes: scanning an indirect token displayed on a guest device, where a guest has previously registered a payment instrument with a server, and associated the payment instrument with a plurality of indirect tokens, and the server has stored a payment token that associates the plurality of indirect tokens with the payment instrument in a database record along with a notification identifier; transmitting the ephemeral token to the server; simultaneously displaying details for a transaction, where the server has accessed the notification identifier to transmit a push notification to the guest device, and where the guest device is executing a proprietary application that allows for simultaneously displaying details for the transaction; and receiving notification from the server that the transaction is complete, where transaction completion data was entered via the guest device and transmitted to the server.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for handoff of a transaction for completion, the method comprising: via a server, facilitating the handoff of the transaction, the facilitating comprising: registering payment instrument data corresponding to a payment instrument; associating the payment instrument data with an indirect payment authorization token and an ephemeral transaction authorization token; and storing a payment token that associates the ephemeral transaction token with the payment instrument data in a payment token database record along with a push notification device identifier that corresponds to a guest device; via a point-of-sale (POS) terminal: receiving the indirect payment authorization token; and transmitting the indirect payment authorization token to the server along with details of the transaction; via the server: responsive to reception of the indirect payment authorization token, transmitting the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the guest device; via the POS terminal: reading the ephemeral transaction authorization token presented by the guest device and transmitting the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the server, wherein the ephemeral transaction authorization token is valid to authorize handoff of the transaction for completion for a prescribed period of time; via the server: employing the payment token to send a push notification to the guest device using the push notification device identifier; via the POS terminal: upon acceptance of a push notification by the guest device, receiving details for the transaction from the server that cause the POS terminal to simultaneously display what is being displayed on the guest device; and via the server: receiving transaction completion data from the guest device; completing the transaction; and notifying the POS terminal that the transaction is complete. 2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises a room key. 3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises an identification badge. 4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises an event ticket. 5. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises a transportation ticket. 6. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the transaction completion data comprises a tip amount. 7. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the guest device comprises a smart phone. 8. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing program instructions that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform a method for handoff of a transaction for completion, the method comprising: via a server, facilitating the handoff of the transaction, the facilitating comprising: registering payment instrument data corresponding to a payment instrument; associating the payment instrument data with an indirect payment authorization token and an ephemeral transaction authorization token; and storing a payment token that associates the ephemeral transaction token with the payment instrument data in a payment token database record along with a push notification device identifier that corresponds to a guest device; via a point-of-sale (POS) terminal: receiving the indirect payment authorization token; and transmitting the indirect payment authorization token to the server along with details of the transaction; via the server: responsive to reception of the indirect payment authorization token, transmitting the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the guest device; via the POS terminal: reading the ephemeral transaction authorization token presented by the guest device and transmitting the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the server, wherein the ephemeral transaction authorization token is valid to authorize handoff of the transaction for completion for a prescribed period of time; via the server: employing the payment token to send a push notification to the guest device using the push notification device identifier; via the POS terminal: upon acceptance of a push notification by the guest device, receiving details for the transaction from the server that cause the POS terminal to simultaneously display what is being displayed on the guest device; and via the server: receiving transaction completion data from the guest device; completing the transaction; and notifying the POS terminal that the transaction is complete. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises a room key. 10. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises an identification badge. 11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises an event ticket. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the payment instrument data comprises a credit card number and the indirect payment authorization token comprises a transportation ticket. 13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the transaction completion data comprises a tip amount. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 8 , wherein the guest device comprises a smart phone. 15. A system for facilitating handoff of a transaction for completion, the system comprising: a server, configured to: register payment instrument data corresponding to a payment instrument; associate the payment instrument data with an indirect payment authorization token and an ephemeral transaction authorization token; and store a payment token that associates the ephemeral transaction token with the payment instrument data in a payment token database record along with a push notification device identifier that corresponds to a guest device; and a point-of-sale (POS) terminal: receiving the indirect payment authorization token; and transmitting the indirect payment authorization token to the server along with details of the transaction; wherein the server: responsive to reception of the indirect payment authorization token, transmits the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the guest device; wherein the POS terminal: reads the ephemeral transaction authorization token presented by the guest device and transmits the ephemeral transaction authorization token to the server, wherein the ephemeral transaction authorization token is valid to authorize handoff of the transaction for completion for a prescribed period of time; wherein the server: employs the payment token to send a push notification to the guest device using the push notification device identifier; wherein the POS terminal: upon acceptance of a push notification by the guest device, receives details for the transaction from the server that cause the POS terminal to simultaneously display what is being displayed on the guest device;
