Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present application discloses examples of various apparatuses and systems that can be utilized for augmented reality. According to one example, a wearable device that can optionally comprise: a frame configured for wearing by a user; one or more optical elements mounted on the frame; an array having a plurality of light emitting diodes coupled to the one or more optical elements, wherein the one or more optical elements and the array are mounted within a field of view of the user when the frame is worn by the user; and additional onboard electronic components carried by the frame including at least a battery that is configured to provide for electrically powered operation of the array.

What is claimed is: 1. A wearable device comprising: a frame configured for wearing by a user; one or more optical elements mounted on the frame; an array having a plurality of light emitting diodes coupled to the one or more optical elements, wherein the one or more optical elements and the array are mounted within a field of view of the user when the frame is worn by the user, wherein the array of the plurality of light emitting diodes are configured to illuminate as a group at particular regions of the field of view of the user for augmented reality function including one or more of creating artwork, messaging, game playing, mapping and guiding, wherein at least the game playing and guiding include moving a simulated object across the field of vision of the user such that a plurality of the particular regions are illuminated; and additional onboard electronic components carried by the frame including at least a battery that is configured to provide for electrically powered operation of the array. 2. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated one of simultaneously or in a time sequence. 3. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to simulate a frame about an object within the field of vision of the user. 4. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to simulate a ball or beacon. 5. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to display a text message in the field of vision of the user. 6. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to indicate where the user should walk according to directions. 7. A wearable device comprising: a frame configured for wearing by a user; one or more optical elements mounted on the frame; an array having a plurality of light emitting diodes coupled to the one or more optical elements, wherein the one or more optical elements and the array are mounted within a field of view of the user when the frame is worn by the user, wherein the array of the plurality of light emitting diodes are configured to illuminate as a group at particular regions of the field of view of the user for augmented reality function including to illuminate a background behind an object within the field of view of the user; and additional onboard electronic components carried by the frame including at least a battery that is configured to provide for electrically powered operation of the array. 8. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to display a text message in the field of vision of the user. 9. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the background comprises a skyline that is illuminated in a desired color. 10. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to simulate a frame about an object within the field of vision of the user. 11. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to simulate a ball or beacon. 12. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to indicate where the user should walk according to directions. 13. The wearable device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated in sequence so as to simulate an object moved across the field of vision of the user. 14. A wearable device comprising: a frame configured for wearing by a user; one or more optical elements mounted on the frame; an array having a plurality of light emitting diodes coupled to the one or more optical elements, wherein the one or more optical elements and the array are mounted within a field of view of the user when the frame is worn by the user, wherein the array of the plurality of light emitting diodes are configured to illuminate as a group at particular regions of the field of view of the user for augmented reality function including messaging to display a text message in the field of vision of the user; and additional onboard electronic components carried by the frame including at least a battery that is configured to provide for electrically powered operation of the array. 15. The wearable device of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated for augmented reality function including game playing and guiding including by moving a simulated object across the field of vision of the user such that a plurality of the particular regions are illuminated. 16. The wearable device of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to simulate a ball or beacon. 17. The wearable device of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated to indicate where the user should walk according to directions. 18. The wearable device of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated in sequence so as to simulate an object moved across the field of vision of the user. 19. The wearable device of claim 14 , wherein the text message appears on a background behind an object within the field of view of the user. 20. The wearable device of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of particular regions are illuminated for augmented reality function including for creating artwork and game playing.
