What is claimed is: 1. An isolated VISTA antagonist comprising a peptide which is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 (Ser-Ser-Ala-Cys-Asp-Trp-Ile-Lys-Arg-Ser-Cys-His), or a multimer or conjugate thereof. 2. A VISTA antagonist comprising a peptide which is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 (Ser-Ser-Ala-Cys-Asp-Trp-Ile-Lys-Arg-Ser-Cys-His), except that one amino acid residue thereof is modified by a modification selected from the group consisting of PEGylation, acetylation, and XTEN. 3. A VISTA antagonist comprising a fusion protein which comprises a peptide which is identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 (Ser-Ser-Ala-Cys-Asp-Trp-Ile-Lys-Arg-Ser-Cys-His), wherein said peptide is directly or indirectly conjugated to albumin or an immunoglobulin constant or Fc region. 4. The fusion protein of claim 3 , wherein said immunoglobulin Fc region comprises a human IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 or IgG4 constant or Fc region. 5. The fusion protein of claim 3 , wherein said immunoglobulin constant or Fc region comprises a human IgG1 constant or Fc region. 6. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 7. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and another active agent. 8. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 2 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 9. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 10. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 4 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 11. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of a VISTA antagonist according to claim 5 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
