The present invention relates to chemical compounds, the compounds for use in a method of treatment, particularly in a method of prophylaxis or treatment for cancer, a process for preparation of the compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds. The compounds may, in particular, be useful in the treatment of leukaemia, lymphoma and/or solid tumours in Homo sapiens. The compounds are derivatives of cordycepin (3′-deoxyadenosine).

The invention claimed is: 1. A compound which is 3′-Deoxyadenosine-5′-O-[phenyl(benzyloxy-L-alaninyl)] phosphate: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising a compound of claim 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. 3. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 2 , in an oral dosage form. 4. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 2 , in a liquid dosage form. 5. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 4 , in an aqueous solution of or suspension. 6. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 5 , in an intravenous formulation. 7. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 5 , in a parenteral formulation. 8. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 2 , that contains from 50 mg to 700 mg of the compound.
