Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A control device for an electronic aerosol provision system is configured to receive a replaceable component to form an electronic aerosol provision system. The control device is further configured to receive an identifier from a replaceable component received by the control device; and to modify one or more characteristics (such as resistance to draw, RTD) of an airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system dependent upon the received identifier.

The invention claimed is: 1. A control device for an electronic aerosol provision system, the control device being configured to receive a replaceable component to form an electronic aerosol provision system, the control device being configured to: receive an identifier from the replaceable component received by the control device; and modify one or more characteristics of an airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system dependent upon the received identifier; wherein the one or more characteristics of the airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system comprise resistance to draw. 2. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to modify the resistance to draw of the airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system dependent upon the received identifier to provide a substantially consistent resistance to draw for the electronic aerosol provision system for different received replaceable components. 3. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the output provides information about a consumable material in the replaceable component from which the identifier was received. 4. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the control device further includes a communication interface for interacting with a remote server either directly or indirectly via a smartphone. 5. An electronic aerosol provision system comprising the control device of claim 1 . 6. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to modify the resistance to draw by modifying a cross-sectional area of the airflow path in at least one location. 7. The control device of claim 6 , wherein the control device is configured to modify the resistance to draw at an inlet or an outlet of the airflow path. 8. The control device of claim 1 , wherein an airflow modifier is provided to modify at least one of a cross-sectional area or a length of the airflow path. 9. The control device of claim 8 , wherein the airflow modifier comprises a diaphragm that can be widened or narrowed to modify the cross-sectional area of the airflow path. 10. The control device of claim 8 , wherein the airflow modifier is either: located in the control device; or located in the replaceable component. 11. The control device of claim 8 , wherein the airflow modifier is electrically operated to modify at least one of the cross-sectional area or the length of the airflow path. 12. The control device of claim 11 , wherein the electrical operation of the airflow modifier includes generating a magnetic field to modify the cross-sectional area of the airflow path. 13. The control device of claim 11 , wherein the electrical operation of the airflow modifier utilizes thermal expansion to modify the cross-sectional area of the airflow path. 14. A control device for an electronic aerosol provision system, the control device being configured to receive a replaceable component to form an electronic aerosol provision system, the control device being configured to: receive an identifier from the replaceable component received by the control device; and provide output to a user based on the received identifier, wherein the output is provided on a display of the electronic aerosol provision system, and wherein in response to identifying the replaceable component, the display is configured to collect user input comprising control information for use with the replaceable component. 15. The control device of claim 14 , wherein the control device is configured to transmit the output for display on an external system. 16. The control device of claim 14 , wherein the output is dependent upon an authorization of the received identifier. 17. The control device of claim 14 , wherein the output provides information about a consumable material in the replaceable component from which the identifier was received. 18. A method of operating a control device for an electronic aerosol provision system, the method comprising: receiving a replaceable component to form an electronic aerosol provision system; receiving an identifier from the replaceable component; and in response to the received identifier: modifying one or more airflow characteristics of an airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system dependent upon the received identifier, wherein modifying one or more airflow characteristics of the airflow path through the electronic aerosol provision system comprises modifying a resistance to draw of the airflow path. 19. A method of operating a control device for an electronic aerosol provision system, the method comprising: receiving a replaceable component to form an electronic aerosol provision system; receiving an identifier from the replaceable component; and in response to the received identifier: providing output to a user based on the received identifier using a display of the electronic aerosol provision system, wherein in response to identifying the replaceable component, the display is configured to collect user input comprising control information for use with the replaceable component.
