Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems, devices, and methods described herein are directed towards sharing and exchanging insurance information between individuals. An insurance application is provided to a mobile computing device, and the insurance application is configured to transmit insurance information to another mobile computing device. Transmission of insurance information from the mobile computing device to the other mobile computing device may be initiated using the insurance application. A message may be generated that indicates the insurance information was transmitted from the mobile computing device to the other mobile computing device. The message may be sent to an insurance system, and receipt of the message at the insurance system may cause the insurance system to respond to the transmission of insurance information from the mobile device to the other mobile device. The transmission of insurance information may be initiated in response to a bump gesture performed between the mobile device and the other mobile device.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of providing insurance information comprising: receiving, from a first telematics unit in a first vehicle and a second telematics unit in a second vehicle, telematics information regarding the first vehicle and the second vehicle; storing the telematics information; analyzing a first portion of the telematics information received from and specific to the first vehicle and analyzing a second portion of the telematics information received from and specific to the second vehicle to determine whether a vehicle incident has occurred involving the first vehicle and the second vehicle, wherein the first portion of the telematics information is indicative of a first velocity associated with the first vehicle at an occurrence of the vehicle incident and the second portion of the telematics information is indicative of a second velocity associated with the second vehicle at the occurrence of the vehicle incident, and wherein the first portion of the telematics information comprises first sensor information provided by first sensors installed on the first vehicle and the second portion of the telematics information comprises second sensor information provided by second sensors installed on the second vehicle, the first sensor information being indicative of damage to the first vehicle and the second sensor information being indicative of damage to the second vehicle; calculating a first damage estimate for the first vehicle by comparing the first velocity and the second velocity to velocity correlation data and by comparing the first sensor information to sensor correlation data; calculating a second damage estimate for the second vehicle by comparing the first velocity and the second velocity to the velocity correlation data and by comparing the second sensor information to the sensor correlation data; providing an insurance application on a first mobile computing device of a first individual associated with the first vehicle and on a second mobile computing device of a second individual associated with the second vehicle, wherein the insurance application is configured to share the insurance information between the first mobile computing device and the second mobile computing device; detecting, at the insurance application on the first mobile computing device and on the second mobile computer device, a bump gesture physically performed between the first mobile computing device and the second mobile computing device; in response to detecting occurrence of the bump gesture, identifying the first individual based on telematics information of the first vehicle and the bump gesture and identifying the second individual based on telematics information of the second vehicle and the bump gesture; in response to identifying the first individual and the second individual, initiating transmission of the insurance information from the first mobile computing device to the second mobile computing device; in response to identifying the first individual and the second individual, sending a first portion of insurance information that is associated with the first individual to the second mobile computer device and sending a second portion of insurance information that is associated with the second individual to the first mobile computer device; in response to sending the first portion of insurance information to the second mobile computer device, generating, using the insurance application, a message indicating that the insurance information was transmitted from the first mobile computing device to the second mobile computing device; and sending the message to an insurance system, wherein receipt of the message at the insurance system causes the insurance system to respond to the transmission of the insurance information from the first mobile computing device to the second mobile computing device; wherein identification of the first individual and the second individual and transmission of the insurance information to the first individual and the second individual occur when the first individual and the second individual are at a geographic location of the vehicle incident. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, at the insurance application on the second mobile computing device and from the first mobile computing device, the first insurance information for the first individual that is associated with the first mobile computing device; and presenting the first insurance information to the second individual using the insurance application; receiving, at the insurance application on the first mobile computing device and from the second mobile computing device, the second insurance information for the second individual that is associated with the second mobile computing device; and presenting the second insurance information to the first individual using the insurance application. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the message includes configuring the message to indicate a date on which the insurance information was transmitted, a time at which the insurance information was transmitted, and a geographic location at which the insurance information was transmitted. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein receipt of the message at the insurance system causes the insurance system to respond by sending instructions to the insurance application at the first mobile computing device and further comprising: responsive to receipt of the instructions at the insurance application, requesting first input at the insurance application indicating whether the vehicle incident occurred prior to the transmission of the insurance information from the first mobile computing device to the second mobile computing device, receiving, at the insurance application, the first input indicating whether the vehicle incident occurred prior to the transmission of the insurance information, and sending a response from the insurance application to the insurance system wherein the response indicates whether the vehicle incident occurred. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, at the insurance application, additional input requesting that the insurance information be provided to an individual associated with a vehicle; prompting, using the insurance application, for additional input that comprises a vehicle identifier; generating, using the insurance application, a request that includes the vehicle identifier; and sending the request to the insurance system wherein receipt of the request at the insurance system causes the insurance system to identify the individual associated with the vehicle based on the vehicle identifier, and provide the insurance information to the individual associated with the vehicle. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein prompting for the additional input that comprises the vehicle identifier includes prompting for a vehicle identification number or a license plate number. 7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising: receiving a proposed settlement amount from the insurance system at the insurance application; presenting the proposed settlement amount using the insurance application; and prompting for additional input at the insurance application that indicates whether the proposed settlement amount is accepted. 8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising: responsive to a determination that the additional input at the insurance application indicates the proposed settlement amount is accepted, prompting for additional input at the insurance application that comprises payment information, and sending the payment information to the insurance system, wherein receipt of the payment information at the insurance system causes the insurance system to initiate a payment to the individual associated w
