Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A platform for design of a lighting installation generally includes an automated search engine for retrieving and storing a plurality of lighting objects in a lighting object library and a lighting design environment providing a visual representation of a lighting space containing lighting space objects and lighting objects. The visual representation is based on properties of the lighting space objects and lighting objects obtained from the lighting object library. A plurality of aesthetic filters is configured to permit a designer in a design environment to adjust parameters of the plurality of lighting objects handled in the design environment to provide a desired collective lighting effect using the plurality of lighting objects.

First claim

We claim: 1. A system for augmented reality lighting, comprising: a first device representing a selected light source, the first device incorporating a position- and orientation-detecting, at least two-dimensional image-capturing device, the first device being located in an environment including other structural elements; a second device including a lighting modeling server, being locatable in the environment; the first device being for capturing an at least two-dimensional image of at least a portion of the environment in which the first device is located, and for detecting positions of some of the other structural elements and for detecting a position and orientation of the first device in the environment, and for communicating the captured image and the detected position and orientation of the first device and the positions of some of the other structural elements to the lighting modeling server; the lighting modeling server being for accessing a three-dimensional lighting model database of the selected light source and for modeling a three-dimensional interaction of the selected light source with some of the other structural elements in the environment being detected in the captured image based on the position and orientation of the first device; and the lighting modeling server being for rendering the modeled interaction in a three-dimensional augmented reality image being representative of the selected light source located in the environment. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first device is for detecting the orientation and position of the first device in the environment by analyzing the image of the at least a portion of the environment for indications of the position of the first device and its orientation in the environment, and tracking changes to the position and orientation of the first device. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first device is for detecting the orientation and position of the first device by analyzing detected position and orientation information for the first device. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first device includes a user interface through which a user is enabled to select the selected light source from a library of light sources and through which the user is enabled to cause an at least two-dimensional image of the selected light source to be displayed by the first device. 5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the first device is for identifying the selected light source to the lighting modeling server. 6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the lighting modeling server is for accessing the stored three-dimensional lighting model database for the selected light source by accessing a library. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first device is a smartphone. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second device is an augmented reality device. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second device includes augmented reality (AR) glasses, an AR-equipped smartphone, or an AR headset. 10. A system for augmented reality lighting, comprising: a first device representing a selected light source, the first device being located in an environment including other structural elements, the first device having a first user interface display for rendering an image of a selected light fixture on the first user interface display, the first device including a position- and orientation-detecting device for detecting position and orientation information for the first device and some of the other structural elements in the environment; a second device being located in the environment, the second device having a second user interface display for rendering an illumination effect of the selected light fixture on a portion of the environment, the second device being for receiving the position and orientation information for the first device and some of the other structural elements; wherein the second device has access to a three-dimensional lighting model database of the selected light source, the second device being for modeling a three-dimensional interaction of the selected light source with some of the other structural elements in the environment detected in the image of the selected light fixture, utilizing the three-dimensional lighting model database together with the position and orientation information; and wherein the second device is for rendering the modeled interaction in a three-dimensional augmented reality image being representative of the selected light source located in the environment. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first device is for detecting the orientation and position of the first device by analyzing the image of the first device in the environment for indications of the position of the first device and its orientation in the environment, and tracking changes to the position and orientation of the first device. 12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second device is for determining the orientation and position of the first device by analyzing the received position and orientation information for the first device. 13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first user interface enables a user to select the selected light source from a library of light sources and wherein the first user interface enables the user to cause an at least two-dimensional image of the selected light source to be displayed by the second device. 14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first device is for identifying the selected light source to the second device. 15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the second device is for accessing the stored three-dimensional lighting model database of the selected light source by accessing a library. 16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first device or the second device is a smartphone. 17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second device is an augmented reality device. 18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the second device includes augmented reality (AR) glasses, an AR-equipped smartphone, or an AR headset.
