A display container for botanical samples includes: (a) an enclosure including a container body having an open top and a lid detachably mounted to the container body and covering the open top. The container body and the lid enclose an interior chamber for storing a botanical sample. The lid has a transparent viewing section extending over the interior chamber for viewing the botanical sample. The display container further includes (b) one or more scent ports extending through the lid between the chamber and environment. The one or more scent ports are spaced apart from the transparent viewing section. The display container further includes (c) a plug mounted to the lid and sealing the one or more scent ports. At least a portion of the plug is movable away from the lid to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical sample.

We claim: 1. A display container for botanical samples, comprising: a) an enclosure including a container body having an open top and a lid detachably mounted to the container body and covering the open top, the container body and the lid enclosing an interior chamber for storing a botanical sample, and the lid having a transparent viewing section extending over the interior chamber for viewing the botanical sample; b) one or more scent ports extending through the lid between the chamber and an outside environment, the one or more scent ports spaced apart from the transparent viewing section; and c) a plug mounted to the lid and sealing the one or more scent ports, at least a portion of the plug being movable away from the lid to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical sample. 2. The display container of claim 1 , wherein the lid has a recess in an exterior surface of the lid, and wherein the scent ports are located in the recess, and the plug is nested in the recess over the scent ports and removable from the recess for exposing the scent ports. 3. The display container of claim 1 , wherein the lid extends over an entirety of the chamber. 4. The display container of claim 1 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a lens. 5. The display container of claim 1 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a window. 6. The display container of claim 1 , wherein the one or more scent ports comprise a plurality of scent ports. 7. The display container of claim 1 , further comprising a sample retainer projecting into the interior chamber for retaining the botanical sample at a predetermined location in the interior chamber and inhibiting movement of the botanical sample from the predetermined location. 8. A display container for botanical samples, comprising: a) an enclosure having an interior chamber for storing a botanical sample, a lower portion bounding the interior chamber from below, and an upper portion detachably mounted to the lower portion and comprising a transparent viewing section extending over the chamber for viewing of the botanical sample; b) one or more scent ports extending through the upper portion between the chamber and an outside environment, the one or more scent ports spaced apart from the transparent viewing section; and c) a plug mounted to the upper portion and sealing the one or more scent ports, at least a portion of the plug being movable away from the upper portion to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical sample. 9. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the upper portion of the enclosure has a recess in an exterior surface of the upper portion, and wherein the one or more scent ports are located in the recess, and the plug is nested in the recess over the one or more scent ports and removable from the recess for exposing the one or more scent ports. 10. The display container of claim 9 , wherein the recess comprises an endwall recessed inwardly from the exterior surface and a sidewall surface extending between the endwall and the exterior surface, the endwall and the sidewall surface formed integrally with the exterior surface, and wherein the one or more scent ports are formed integrally in the endwall. 11. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the one or more scent ports overlie the chamber. 12. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the upper portion has a top wall lying in a generally horizontal plane and bounding the chamber from above, and wherein the transparent viewing section and the one or more scent ports are in the top wall. 13. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the upper portion extends over an entirety of the chamber. 14. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a lens. 15. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a window. 16. The display container of claim 8 , further comprising a sample retainer projecting into the interior chamber for retaining the botanical sample at a predetermined location in the interior chamber and inhibiting movement of the botanical sample from the predetermined location. 17. The display container of claim 16 , wherein the sample retainer comprises at least one elongate projection for engagement with the botanical sample. 18. The display container of claim 8 , further comprising a card holder supported by the enclosure and shaped to hold a removable identification card providing information about the botanical sample. 19. The display container of claim 8 , wherein the one or more scent ports comprise a plurality of scent ports. 20. A display container for botanical samples, comprising: a) an enclosure having an interior chamber for storing a botanical sample and an integrated lens overlying the chamber for viewing of the botanical sample; b) one or more scent ports extending through the enclosure between the chamber and an outside environment, the one or more scent ports spaced apart from the lens; and c) a plug mounted to the enclosure and sealing the one or more scent ports, at least a portion of the plug being movable away from the enclosure to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical sample.
