Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A tower fan is provided that includes a fan body having a double cross fan blower centered in the body of the fan with a motor positioned between the fan blowers in the center of the fan body. The tower fan is capable of being oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions. The fan body may further include first and second ends and at least two supports. At least a first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and a second support is removably coupled to the least second end of the fan body. The first and second ends of the fan body each have a groove for each receiving at least one of the at least two support members where each groove extends entirely around the fan body. The at least two supports may both be removably coupled to the fan body or one of the at least two supports may be permanently coupled to the first end of the fan body.

We claim: 1. A fan designed to be oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions, the fan comprising: a fan body having a first and second end; and at least two leg support members, where in the horizontal orientation, at least a first leg support member is coupled to the first end of the fan body and where a second leg support member is removably coupled to the second end of the fan body, and where in the vertical orientation, the at least a-first leg support member is coupled to the first end of the fan body and where the second leg support member is removably coupled from the second end of the fan body and removeable coupled to the first end of the fan body, where the first and second ends of the fan body each have a groove that extends entirely around the fan body for each receiving at least one of the at least two leg supports members; and at least two half rings that each fit within and couple to the grooves in the first and second ends of the fan body and that when positioned within in the grooves with the at least a first or the second leg support member mate with the at least a first or the second leg support members. 2. The fan of claim 1 where the at least a first leg support member is removably coupled to the first end of the fan body. 3. The fan of claim 1 where the at least a first leg support member is permanently coupled to the first end of the fan body. 4. The fan of claim 1 where the groove in the first end of the fan body is designed to couple with the at least two leg support members simultaneously to support the fan in a vertical position. 5. The fan of claim 1 where each leg support member has two support contacts for supporting the fan on a support surface. 6. The fan of claim 1 where the fan body houses a double cross fan blower centered in the body of the fan. 7. A fan designed to be oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions, the fan comprising: a fan body having a first and second end; and at least a first and second leg support members, where the first end of the fan body includes a first groove that extends entirely around the fan body for receiving both the at least first and second leg support members, where the at least first leg support member and the at least second leg support member are removably coupled to the groove in opposing positions to support the fan in a vertical position, and where the second end of the fan body includes a second groove for receiving the at least second leg support member, where the at first leg support member is positioned in the first groove and the at least second leg support member is reconfigurable and positioned in the second groove in alignment with the at least first leg support member to support the fan body in a horizontal orientation; a double crossflow blower mounted in the body of the fan, the double crossflow blower includes a first and second blower having a motor mounted between the first and second blowers, where the motor is centered within the body of the fan between the first and second end of the fan body such that the first blower is on one side of the motor between the motor and the first end of the fan body and the second blower is on the opposing side of the motor between the motor and second end of the fan body. 8. The fan of claim 7 where the groove in the first end of the fan body is designed to couple with at least two leg support members simultaneously to support the fan in a vertical position. 9. The fan of claim 7 where each leg support member has two support contacts for supporting the fan on a support surface. 10. The fan of claim 7 where the first and second groove each extends entirely around the fan body and where the fan further includes at least two half rings that each fit within and couple to the grooves in the first and second ends of the fan body and that when positioned within in the grooves with the at least first or the at least second leg support member mate with the at least first or the at least second leg support members. 11. A fan designed to be oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions, the fan comprising: a fan body having a first and second end; and at least a first and second support where the at least second support is reconfigurable to support the fan body in both a horizontal and vertical orientation, where in the horizontal orientation, the at least first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and where the at least second a second support is removably coupled to second end of the fan body where both the at least first support and the at least second support are aligned to simultaneously support the fan in a horizontal position and, where in the vertical orientation, the at least first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and the at least second support is removably coupled to the first end of the fan body opposite the at least first support such that both the at least first support and the at least second support are attached to and extend from the first end of the fan body to simultaneously support the fan in the vertical position. 12. The fan of claim 11 where the at least a-first support is removably coupled to the first end of the fan body. 13. The fan of claim 11 where the at least a-first support is permanently coupled to the first end of the fan body. 14. The fan of claim 11 where the fan body houses a double cross fan blower centered in the body of the fan. 15. The fan of claim 11 where the first and second ends of the fan body each have a groove for each receiving, when in the horizontal orientation, at least one of the first and second supports where each groove extends entirely around the fan body and where the at least first and second supports each include a leg support member and ring member that, when in the horizontal orientation, each leg support member and ring member fit within and couple to the grooves in the first and second ends of the fan body and when positioned within in the grooves mate with one another. 16. A fan designed to be oriented in both the horizontal and vertical directions, the fan comprising: a fan body having a first and second end; and a double crossflow blower mounted in the body of the fan, the double crossflow blower includes a first and second blower having a motor mounted between the first and a second blowers, where the motor is centered within the body of the fan between the first and second end of the fan body such that the first blower is on one side of the motor between the motor and the first end of the fan body and the second blower is on the opposing side of the motor between the motor and second end of the fan body; and at least a first and second support each having at least one support leg where that at least second support is reconfigurable to support the fan body in both a horizontal and vertical orientation, where in the horizontal orientation, the at least first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and where the at least a second support is removably coupled to second end of the fan body where both the at least one support legs of each of the at least first and second support are aligned to support the fan on a surface in a horizontal position; and where in the vertical orientation, the at least first support is coupled to the first end of the fan body and the at least second support is removably coupled to the first end of the fan body in a position opposite that of the at least first support and where the at least one support leg of the at least first support and the at least one support leg of the at least second support extend f
