Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A process for producing a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate construction board, the process comprising of providing an A-side reactant stream that includes an isocyanate-containing compound; providing a B-side reactant stream that includes a polyol, where the B-side reactant steam includes a blowing agent mixture including isopentane and a blowing agent additive that has a Hansen Solubility Parameter (δ t ) that is greater than 15 MPa 0.5 ; and mixing the A-side reactant stream with the B-side reactant stream to produce a reaction mixture.

What is claimed is: 1. A construction board comprising: (i) a foam body having a generally planar shape with first and second planar surfaces, where said foam body is a closed-cell foam body including isopentane and a blowing agent additive contained within the foam body, where the blowing agent additive has a Hansen Solubility Parameter of from 17.0 to 35.0 MPa −0.5 , where the blowing agent additive has a boiling point, at one atmosphere, of less than 150° C., where said blowing agent additive is selected from the group consisting of ketones, aldehydes, ethers, esters, halogenated hydrocarbons, and aromatics, where the closed-cell body is a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam body prepared by reacting an isocyanate-containing compound with an aromatic polyester polyol, and where the isocyanate-containing compound and the aromatic polyester polyol are reacted at a molar ratio to provide an iso index of at least 220, and where said reacting an isocyanate-containing compound with an aromatic polyester polyol takes place in the presence of a physical blowing agent mixture that includes the isopentane and the blowing agent additive, where the physical blowing agent mixture includes at least 75 wt % of the isopentane, and where the physical blowing agent mixture is substantially devoid of n-pentane and cyclopentane; and (ii) first and second facers attached to said first and second planar surfaces, respectively. 2. The construction board of claim 1 , where the foam body has a density of 1.0 to 2.5 lbs/ft 3 . 3. The construction board of claim 1 , where the foam body has an index of at least 225 and a density of 1.2 to 2.2 lbs/ft 3 . 4. The construction board of claim 1 , where the blowing agent additive has a Hansen Solubility Parameter of from 17.5 to 28.0 MPa −0.5 . 5. The construction board of claim 1 , where the blowing agent additive has a Hansen Solubility Parameter that of from 19.0 to 35.0 MP −0.5 . 6. The construction board of claim 1 , where the blowing agent additive has a boiling point, at one atmosphere, of greater than 5° C. 7. The construction board of claim 1 , where blowing agent additive and the isopentane are provided in amounts to provide a molar ratio of the blowing agent additive to the isopentane of from about 1:20 to about 1:1. 8. The construction board of claim 1 , where blowing agent additive and the isopentane are provided in amounts to provide a molar ratio of the blowing agent additive to the isopentane of from about 1:4 to about 2:1. 9. The construction board of claim 1 , where the blowing agent additive is an aldehyde or a ketone. 10. The construction board of claim 9 , where the blowing agent additive is a ketone selected from the group consisting of acetone, acetophenone, butanone, cyclopentanone, ethyl isopropyl ketone, 2-hexanone, isophorone, mesityl oxide, methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl isopropyl ketone, 3-methyl-2-pentanone, 2-pentanone, 3-pentanone, and methyl ethyl ketone. 11.
