A surgical clip applier and methods for applying surgical clips to a vessel, duct, shunt, etc., during a surgical procedure are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical clip applier is provided having a housing with a trigger movably coupled thereto and a shaft extending therefrom with opposed jaws formed on a distal end thereof. The trigger is adapted to advance a clip to position the clip between the jaws, and to move the jaws from an open position to a closed position to crimp the clip positioned therebetween. The surgical clip applier can include a variety of features to facilitate use of the device, including features to prevent misalignment of the jaws and clip therebetween, features to protect the jaws, and features to ensure proper closure of the jaws and clip therebetween.

What is claimed is: 1. A surgical clip applier, comprising: a housing having a rotation knob rotatably coupled thereto; an elongate shaft extending distally from the housing, the elongate shaft being operably coupled to the rotation knob; a pair of jaws formed on a distal end of the elongate shaft, the pair of jaws defining a clip track therebetween for receiving a distal-most clip from a plurality of clips disposed within the elongate shaft, the pair of jaws being movable from an open position to a closed position to deform the distal-most clip; and a shroud disposed around the pair of jaws and configured to limit movement of the pair of jaws to prevent misalignment of the pair of jaws when the pair of jaws are moved from the open position to the closed position; wherein rotation of the rotation knob relative to the housing is configured to rotate the elongate shaft and the pair of jaws relative to the housing. 2. The surgical clip applier of claim 1 , wherein the shroud comprises an upper shroud and a lower shroud. 3. The surgical clip applier of claim 2 , wherein the upper shroud and the lower shroud each having a generally hemi-cylindrical shape with a tapered distal end. 4. The surgical clip applier of claim 2 , wherein the upper shroud and the lower shroud are coupled together via an interlock. 5. The surgical clip applier of claim 4 , wherein the interlock comprises an ultrasonic weld. 6. The surgical clip applier of claim 4 , wherein the interlock comprises a first pair of keyed tracks disposed on the upper shroud and a second pair of keyed tracks disposed on the lower shroud. 7. The surgical clip applier of claim 4 , wherein the interlock comprises a plurality of protrusions extending approximately perpendicular from an inner side of the upper shroud and a pair of rails extending along opposed sides of the lower shroud, the plurality of protrusions being configured to engage the pair of rails. 8. The surgical clip applier of claim 4 , wherein the interlock comprises at least one hooked features extending from the upper shroud and at least one curved slot defined in the lower shroud. 9. The surgical clip applier of claim 1 , wherein a distal end of the shroud defines a space within which the pair of jaws are disposed. 10. The surgical clip applier of claim 9 , wherein the pair of jaws include angled distal portions, and wherein the space extends at an angle to accommodate the angled distal portions. 11. A surgical clip applier, comprising: a housing having a rotation knob rotatably coupled thereto; an elongate shaft extending distally from the housing, the elongate shaft being operably coupled to the rotation knob and being configured to rotate relative to the housing; a pair of jaws each having a proximal portion extending into the elongate shaft and a distal end positioned beyond the elongate shaft, the pair of jaws having opposed inward facing surfaces and defining a clip track therebetween for receiving a distal-most clip from a plurality of clips disposed within the elongate shaft, the pair of jaws being movable between an open position in which the inward facing surfaces are non-parallel to each other and a closed position in which the inward facing surfaces are parallel to each other; wherein rotation of the rotation knob relative to the housing is configured to rotate the elongate shaft and the pair of jaws relative to the housing. 12. The surgical clip applier of claim 11 , wherein the pair of jaws are configured to move from the open position to the closed position along a curved path. 13. The surgical clip applier of claim 11 , wherein a distal-most end of the pair of jaws is configured to be the first point of contact when the pair of jaws are moved from the open position to the closed position. 14. The surgical clip applier of claim 11 , wherein each of the proximal portions of the pair of jaws extend approximately parallel to a longitudinal axis of the elongate shaft when the pair of jaws are in the open position. 15. The surgical clip applier claim 11 , wherein each of the distal portions of the pair of jaws extend away from the longitudinal axis at an angle equal to between approximately 0 and 45 degrees.
