The present application concerns the treatment and prevention of diseases associated with an increased risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, such as Fragile X syndrome, by administering a selective 5-HT1A receptor agonist.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of treatment of seizures in a patient exhibiting a FMR1 gene dysfunction and suffering from a disease with which Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) occurs, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of NLX-101 (also known as F-15599) having formula (IA): or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said disease with which SUDEP occurs is Fragile X syndrome. 3. A method of treating Fragile X syndrome in a patient exhibiting a FMR1 gene dysfunction, the method comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of NLX-101 (also known as F-15599) having formula (IA): or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
