A filter mask for biological material has a mask body and a removable filter assembly.
Opening claim text (preview).
The invention claimed is: 1. A filter mask comprising: (a) a mask body which, when worn by a user, abuts the face of the user and covers the mouth and nose of the user, the mask body having a mask body mounting member; (b) a filter assembly comprising a fan, a cavity that is suitable for having a filter media housed therein and a filter assembly mounting member which comprises a filter assembly connection element; and, (c) a face plate having an opening defined by a perimeter wall, the opening extending through the face plate between a forward facing surface of the face plate and a rearward facing surface of the face plate, the forward facing surface having a forward face plate mounting member, which is located at the opening and comprises a forward face plate connection element, and the rearward facing surface having a rearward face plate mounting member that is located at the opening, wherein the filter assembly connection element is directly removably connectable to the forward face plate connection element and the mask body mounting member is directly removably connectable to the rearward face plate mounting member, wherein an air flow passage extends between an inlet port of the filter assembly and the mask body, wherein the air flow passage extends through the face plate and the perimeter wall defines a portion of the air flow passage and directly contacts air flowing through the air flow passage. 2. The filter mask of claim 1 wherein the face plate is removable. 3. The filter mask of claim 1 wherein the mounting members define a portion of the air flow passage. 4. The filter mask of claim 3 wherein the filter assembly is rotatably mounted to the face plate. 5. The filter mask of claim 1 wherein, when the user is wearing the filter mask, the face plate is positioned on a side of the mask body opposed to the face of a user. 6. The filter mask of claim 1 wherein the filter assembly is rotatably mounted to the face plate. 7. A filter mask comprising: (a) a mask body which, when worn by a user, abuts the face of the user and covers the mouth and nose of the user, the mask body having a mask body mounting member; (b) a filter assembly comprising a filter assembly mounting member and a cavity that is suitable for having a filter media housed therein; and, (c) a face plate, the face plate is transparent and has a forward face plate mounting member provided on a forward facing surface of the face plate, a rearward face plate mounting member provided on a rearward facing surface of the face plate, and a connecting passage extending through the face plate between the forward and rearward face plate mounting members, wherein the filter assembly mounting member of the filter assembly includes a connection element that is removably connectable to a connection element of the forward face plate mounting member whereby the filter assembly is directly removably connectable to the forward facing surface of the face plate, wherein the mask body mounting member of the mask body is removably connectable with the rearward face plate mounting member whereby the mask body is directly removably connectable to the rearward facing surface of the face plate, and wherein, when the filter assembly is connected with the forward face plate mounting member and the mask body is connected to the rearward face plate mounting member, the connecting passage defines an air flow channel extending between the filter assembly and the mask body, whereby the face plate itself directly contacts air flowing through the air flow channel. 8. The filter mask of claim 7 wherein the filter assembly is rotatably mounted to the forward face plate mounting member of the face plate. 9. The filter mask of claim 7 wherein the face plate is adapted to be spaced from a face of the user. 10. The filter mask of claim 9 wherein, when the user is wearing the filter mask, the face plate is positioned on a side of the mask body opposed to the face of a user. 11. The filter mask of claim 7 wherein a portion of the face plate which is transparent surrounds the forward and rearward face plate mounting members. 12. The filter mask of claim 7 wherein, when assembled, a rearward projection of the filter assembly extends through a portion of the face plate which is transparent.
