The present disclosure relates to aerosol delivery devices, methods of producing such devices, and elements of such devices. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides devices configured for vaporization of an aerosol precursor composition that is contained in a reservoir and transported to a heating element by a liquid transport element. The liquid transport element may include a porous monolith.

The invention claimed is: 1. An atomizer for an aerosol delivery device, the atomizer comprising: a porous monolith formed of a ceramic and comprising a first end and an opposing second end, wherein a reservoir defining a channel is arranged proximate the opposing second end and extending toward the first end and only partially through the porous monolith from an exterior surface of the second end of the porous monolith, the reservoir being configured to retain an aerosol precursor composition along the channel, and comprising a liquid transport element in contact with the channel of the reservoir along a substantial entirety thereof and being configured to transport the aerosol precursor composition through a portion of the liquid transport element; and a vaporization element positioned relative to the porous monolith so as to be configured for vaporization of the aerosol precursor composition; wherein at least a portion of the first end of the ceramic monolith is substantially planar, and the vaporization element is at least partially positioned on the substantially planar portion of the ceramic monolith. 2. The atomizer according to claim 1 , wherein the porous monolith has a substantially square or substantially rectangular cross-section. 3. The atomizer according to claim 1 , wherein the vaporization element is a heater. 4. An aerosol delivery device comprising: an outer housing; a porous monolith formed of a ceramic and comprising a first end and an opposing second end, and being positioned within the outer housing, a reservoir defining a channel being arranged proximate the opposing second end and extending toward the first end and only partially through the porous monolith from an exterior surface of the second end of the porous monolith, the reservoir being configured to retain an aerosol precursor composition along the channel, and comprising a liquid transport element in contact with the channel of the reservoir along a substantial entirety thereof and being configured to transport the aerosol precursor composition through a portion of the liquid transport element; a vaporization element positioned within the outer housing relative to the porous monolith so as to be configured for vaporization of the aerosol precursor composition to form a vapor; wherein at least a portion of the first end of the ceramic monolith is substantially planar, and the vaporization element is at least partially positioned on the substantially planar portion of the ceramic monolith. 5. The aerosol delivery device according to claim 4 , further comprising an air entry, a mouth end, and an aerosol port formed in the mouth end. 6. The aerosol delivery device according to claim 5 , wherein an air flow passing between the air entry and the aerosol port is configured to pass substantially across a surface of the porous monolith. 7. The aerosol delivery device according to claim 4 , wherein the porous monolith has a substantially square or substantially rectangular cross-section. 8. The aerosol delivery device according to claim 4 , wherein the vaporization element is a heater.
