The invention claimed is: 1. A smoking article for an electrical smoking system, the smoking article comprising: a smokable material; and a polymer including a flavorant-containing repeating unit and a salt-containing repeating unit, the flavorant-containing repeating unit including a flavorant linked to a backbone of the polymer with a non-carbonate linking group configured to release the flavorant when heated, the flavorant including a first flavorant and a second flavorant, wherein the first flavorant and the second flavorant are bound to the polymeric backbone through the non-carbonate linking group. 2. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the smokable material includes tobacco or a tobacco substitute. 3. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the smokable material is in a form of a rod. 4. The smoking article of claim 3 , further comprising: a filter attached to the rod. 5. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer is within the smokable material. 6. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer is present in an amount of 0.001 to 10 weight percent based on a weight of the smokable material. 7. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer has a number average molecular weight (M n ) between 2,000 to 5,000 daltons. 8. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer includes polyester, polyimide, polyurethane, polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(meth)acrylate, poly(itaconate), or polyacrylonitrile. 9. The smoking article of claim 8 , wherein the flavorant-containing repeating unit includes a (meth)acrylate repeating unit. 10. The smoking article of claim 8 , wherein the flavorant-containing repeating unit includes an itaconate repeating unit. 11. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the flavorant includes a compound with at least one hydroxyl, carboxyl, aldehyde, or ketone group. 12. The smoking article of claim 11 , wherein the compound includes one or more of menthol, vanillin, linalool, guaicol, thymol, coumarin, eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, geraniol, and carvone. 13. The smoking article of claim 12 , wherein the compound includes menthol. 14. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the salt-containing repeating unit includes a salt including one or more of sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. 15. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the non-carbonate linking group is an ester, ether, hemiacetal, hemiketal, acetal or ketal linking group. 16. The smoking article of claim 1 , wherein the first flavorant is different from the second flavorant.
