Techniques are disclosed for systems and methods to detect and/or classify a vehicle occupant, such as a passenger seated within the cockpit of a vehicle. An occupant classification system includes an occupant weight sensor, an occupant presence sensor, and a logic device configured to communicate with the occupant weight sensor and the occupant presence sensor. The logic device is configured to receive occupant weight sensor signals from the occupant weight sensor and occupant presence sensor signals from the occupant presence sensor, determine an estimated occupant weight and an occupant presence response based, at least in part, on the occupant weight sensor signals and the occupant presence sensor signals, and determine an occupant classification status corresponding to the passenger seat based, at least in part, on the estimated occupant weight and/or the occupant presence response.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: a vehicle comprising a sensing device associated with a passenger seat in the vehicle, the sensing device comprising at least one of an occupant weight sensor or an occupant presence sensor; and a computing device communicatively coupled to the vehicle via a network, the computing device configured to: receive one or more input signals associated with the sensing device, determine an occupant classification status based on the one or more input signals, determine a control command based on the occupant classification status, wherein the control command is associated with a control component on the vehicle, and communicate an indication of the control command to the vehicle, wherein the control component executes the control command upon receipt. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computing device is within the vehicle. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computing device is remote from the vehicle. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computing device is configured to: determine at least one of an estimated occupant weight or an occupant presence response based on the one or more input signals, wherein to determine the occupant classification status, the computing device determines the occupant classification status based on the at least one of the estimated occupant weight or the occupant presence response. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the control component is associated with at least one of an occupant restraint system, a locking mechanism, or an airbag deployment system. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein execution of the control command causes a display within the vehicle to display an indication of the occupant classification status. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the network is a cellular network. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the network is a WiFi network. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computing device is a server computing device. 10. A method comprising: receiving, via a network, one or more input signals associated with a sensing device of a vehicle, wherein the sensing device is associated with a passenger seat in the vehicle, wherein the sensing device comprises at least one of an occupant weight sensor or an occupant presence sensor; determining an occupant classification status based on the one or more input signals, determining a control command based on the occupant classification status, wherein the control command is associated with a control component on the vehicle, and communicating, via the network, an indication of the control command to the vehicle, wherein the control component executes the control command upon receipt. 11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method is performed by a computing device that is within the vehicle. 12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method is performed by a computing device that is remote from the vehicle. 13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: determining at least one of an estimated occupant weight or an occupant presence response based on the one or more input signals, wherein said determining the occupant classification status is based on the at least one of the estimated occupant weight or the occupant presence response. 14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the control component is associated with at least one of an occupant restraint system, a locking mechanism, or an airbag deployment system. 15. The method of claim 9 , wherein execution of the control command causes a display within the vehicle to display an indication of the occupant classification status. 16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the network is a cellular network. 17. The method of claim 9 , wherein the network is a WiFi network. 18. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method is performed by a server computing device. 19. A system comprising: a vehicle comprising a sensing device associated with a passenger seat in the vehicle, the sensing device comprising at least one of an occupant weight sensor or an occupant presence sensor; and a computing device communicatively coupled to the vehicle via a network, the computing device configured to: receive, from the vehicle, an indication of an occupant classification status, wherein one or more processors of the vehicle determines the occupant classification status based on the one or more input signals, determine a control command based on the occupant classification status, wherein the control command is associated with a control component on the vehicle, and communicate an indication of the control command to the vehicle, wherein the control component executes the control command upon receipt. 20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the computing device is remote from the vehicle.
