What is claimed is: 1. A heat deflector for a fire pit, the heat deflector comprising: a first portion having a first outer edge and a center, and having a first surface extending from the first outer edge to the center of the first portion, the first surface sloping downward from the first outer edge toward the center of the first portion; a second portion having a second inner edge and a second outer edge, the inner edge of the second portion being adjacent to the first outer edge of the first portion; a third portion having a third outer edge and a third inner edge, and having a second surface extending from the third outer edge of the third portion to the third inner edge of the third portion, the second surface sloping downward from the third outer edge of the third portion to the third inner edge of the third portion; and a plurality of legs; wherein a top portion of each leg of the plurality of legs is shaped to pass through the second portion and secure to the second portion of the heat deflector, wherein a bottom portion of each leg of the plurality of legs is configured to rest non-fixedly on a portion of the fire pit. 2. The heat deflector of claim 1 , further comprising: a plurality of holes formed in the second portion, the plurality of holes sized to permit passage of air through the second portion. 3. The heat deflector of claim 1 , further comprising: one or more ribbed features formed in the third portion, the one or more ribbed features being configured to improve resistance of the heat deflector to deformation. 4. The heat deflector of claim 1 , wherein each leg of the plurality of legs is removable from the heat deflector. 5. The heat deflector of claim 1 , further comprising a hole formed in the center of the first portion. 6. The heat deflector of claim 1 , wherein the slope of the first portion has a first angle, and the slope of the third portion has a second angle that is smaller than the first angle. 7. The heat deflector of claim 1 , the first portion has a generally circular shape. 8. A heat deflector, comprising: a cone having a base perimeter, a vertex, and a first surface extending from the vertex to the base perimeter, wherein the vertex is below the base perimeter; a first ring-shaped portion extending around the base perimeter, the first ring-shaped portion having an inner perimeter and an outer perimeter; a plurality of holes formed in the first ring-shaped portion; and a second ring-shaped portion extending around the first ring-shaped portion, the second ring-shaped portion having a second surface that has a first slope extending from an interior edge of the second ring-shaped portion to an exterior edge of the second ring-shaped portion, wherein a slope of at least a portion of the first ring-shaped portion is between 3 degrees and 12 degrees from horizontal; and wherein a slope of the first surface is between 20 degrees and 40 degrees from horizontal. 9. The heat deflector of claim 8 , wherein the first surface has a second slope that is greater than the first slope of the second ring-shaped portion. 10. The heat deflector of claim 8 , further comprising: a third, middle ring-shaped portion extending from the first ring-shaped portion to the second ring-shaped portion, the third ring-shaped portion including a raised surface; an opening in the third ring-shaped portion; and a leg of the plurality of legs having an upper portion, the upper portion of the leg extending through the opening in the third ring-shaped portion. 11. The heat deflector of claim 8 , further comprising one or more structural support features formed in the second surface of the second ring-shaped portion. 12. The heat deflector of claim 8 , further comprising a hole formed in vertex of the cone. 13. The heat deflector of claim 8 , wherein the heat deflector is formed of a single stamped piece of metal. 14. The heat deflector of claim 8 , wherein the cone and the second ring-shaped portion are operable to laterally deflect upward radiating heat. 15. The heat deflector of claim 8 , further comprising a third ring-shaped portion extending from the first ring-shaped portion to the second ring-shaped portion, the third ring-shaped portion including a raised surface, wherein the raised surface of the third ring-shaped portion receives a support post for installing the heat deflector. 16. A heat deflector, comprising: a plurality of concentric ring-shaped portions; a cone located within an inner ring of the plurality of concentric rings, the cone having a first surface with a first slope, the first slope extending downward from the inner ring to a vertex of the cone; an outermost ring-shaped portion of the plurality of concentric ring-shaped portions having a second surface, the second surface having a second slope from an outer edge of the outermost ring-shaped portion to toward the center of the outermost ring-shaped portion, the first slope being greater than the second slope; and a plurality of legs, each leg having an upper end that is removably attachable without fasteners to one of the inner ring and the outermost ring and a lower end that is removably restable on a surface. 17. The heat deflector of claim 16 , further comprising a plurality of holes formed in a middle ring-shaped portion of the plurality of ring-shaped portions, the middle ring-shaped portion being between the inner ring-shaped portion and the outermost ring-shaped portion. 18. The heat deflector of claim 16 , further comprising a cap to secure the leg to the heat deflector. 19. The heat deflector of claim 16 , further comprising: a raised ring-shaped portion of the plurality of concentric ring-shaped portions, the raised ring-shaped portion being between the inner ring-shaped portion and the outermost ring-shaped portion; and an opening in a sidewall of the raised ring-shaped portion through which the leg is attachable to the heat deflector. 20. The heat deflector of claim 16 , further comprising one or more structural features formed in the outermost ring-shaped portion to resist warping the heat deflector during heating and cooling cycles. 21.
