Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Power tools such as cutting saws with rotary powered blades are described. Also described are various accessories for tools used with cylindrical workpieces such as pipes are described. The accessories include a clamp and saw joint assembly, various quick connection assemblies between a saw and a clamping system, a plunge guide assembly, a latch plate assembly, an interlock switch, a blade guard system, and a chip management system or chip deflector. Also described are related methods of use.

What is claimed is: 1. An interlock system for a saw or a pipe-working tool defining a receiving aperture, the interlock system comprising: a positionable plunger positionable between an extended state in which the plunger extends into the receiving aperture, and a retracted state in which the plunger does not extend into the receiving aperture; and an interlock switch defining an open position when current does not flow and a closed position when current flows and including electrical contacts, wherein an operational state of the electrical contacts varies depending upon the position of the plunger relative to the receiving aperture. 2. The interlock system of claim 1 wherein the interlock switch further includes a displaceable lever contact positionable between a first position and a second position. 3. The interlock system of claim 2 wherein the plunger defines a plurality of regions for contact by the lever contact. 4. The interlock system of claim 3 wherein the plurality of regions for contact by the lever contact include a first region, a second region, and a third region, wherein upon extension of the plunger into the receiving aperture, the lever contact contacts the third region of the plunger. 5. The interlock system of claim 4 wherein upon retraction of the plunger from the receiving aperture, the lever contact contacts the second region of the plunger. 6. The interlock system of claim 4 wherein the first region is located between the second region and the third region. 7. The interlock system of claim 1 further comprising: a limit pin adjacent the plunger, the limit pin providing a stop for the plunger. 8. The interlock system of claim 1 further comprising: a biasing member, the biasing member urging the plunger to enter the receiving aperture. 9. The interlock system of claim 8 wherein the biasing member is a coil spring. 10. The interlock system of claim 8 , wherein the saw or the pipe-working tool define a housing member, wherein the interlock system further comprises: a securing member threadedly engaged in the housing member, the securing member providing a seat or support for the biasing member. 11. The interlock system of claim 8 wherein when the interlock switch is in the open position the saw or the pipe-working tool cannot operate. 12. The interlock system of claim 8 wherein the saw or the pipe-working tool can only operate when the interlock switch is in the closed position. 13. The interlock system of claim 8 , wherein the saw includes a rotary cutting blade. 14. The interlock system of claim 8 , wherein the saw or the pipe-working tool includes an electric motor.
