Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A fluid treatment plant has a filter module including at least a first filter and a second filter connected in series and connectable to a supply of fluid. A pump is fluidly connected to the filter module and a controller with a fluid quality sensor is connected to detect a quality of the fluid between the first filter and the second filter. A filter module detector is connected to the controller configured to uniquely detect a filter module connected to the pump, and the controller is controls the pump responsively to a signal from the fluid quality sensor and the module detector. The controller is configured to continue pumping based on output of the quality sensor and/or based on output from the filter module detector.

The invention claimed is: 1. A fluid treatment plant, comprising: a filter module that has a unique identifier relative to other filter modules, the filter module including at least a first filter and a second filter connected in series and connectable to a supply of a fluid; a pump fluidly connected to the filter module and configured to pump the fluid; a controller with a fluid quality sensor connected to detect a quality of the fluid between the first filter and the second filter; a filter module detector connected to the controller, the controller being configured to detect the unique identifier of the filter module connected to the pump with the filter module detector, wherein the controller is connected to control the pump responsively to a signal from the fluid quality sensor and the filter module detector, the controller is configured to control the pump to continue pumping if, during a pumping operation, the fluid quality sensor gives a first indication, and the controller is further configured to control the pump to continue pumping until a predetermined quantity of the fluid has been pumped if, during the pumping operation, said fluid quality sensor gives a second indication that is different from the first indication, and after the predetermined quantity of the fluid has been pumped to control the pump to not pump any more of the fluid until said filter module is replaced with a different filter module that has a different unique identifier than the unique identifier of said filter module. 2. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 1 , wherein said first and second filters are deionizing filters and said fluid quality sensor is a conductivity sensor. 3. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 1 , wherein the first filter is a replaceable filter with a strong acid cation (SAC) filter bed. 4. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 3 , wherein the second filter is a replaceable filter with a strong base anion (SBA) filter bed in at least two segregated layers and configured to substantially remove colloidal aluminum from water. 5. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 1 , wherein said filter module detector is a data carrier reader. 6. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 5 , wherein the controller is configured to download software instructions via said data carrier reader for performing a water treatment operation. 7. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 6 , wherein the controller executes the software instructions downloaded via the data carrier reader from a data carrier that is present on the filter module. 8. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 5 , wherein the filter module is provided with a data carrier attached to the filter module. 9. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 8 , wherein the data carrier is a radio frequency identification device (RFID). 10. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 8 , wherein the data carrier is a bar code. 11. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 8 , wherein the data carrier contains the unique identifier of the filter module. 12. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 8 , wherein the data carrier includes a flag indicating that the filter module is expired. 13. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 8 , wherein the controller is configured to prevent pumping of fluid based on the data carrier read by the data carrier reader. 14. The fluid treatment plant according to claim 1 , wherein the fluid is water. 15. A treatment plant for preparing purified water for medical use, comprising: a controller having a data carrier reader that is configured to read a data carrier; and a fluid pump controlled by the controller; a connector adapted to receive filter modules for purifying water, each filter module having a respective data carrier with a unique identifier, wherein the controller is configured to read the unique identifier of a filter module received by the connector and make a comparison of the read unique identifier to at least one other identifier when the filter module is connected to the connector, and to make a decision to either prevent a water preparation operation or to proceed with the water preparation operation responsively to a result of the comparison. 16. The treatment plant according to claim 15 , wherein the data carrier is at least one of a radio frequency identification device and a bar code. 17. The treatment plant according to claim 15 , wherein the data carrier stores software instructions to be executed by the controller. 18. The treatment plant according to claim 15 , wherein the controller is further configured to control a pump to stop pumping to prevent the water preparation operation.
